Severe WX March 21-23 2022

By the time this hits I-65 I think we are talking about heavy rain & strong straight-line winds. Obviously embedded tornadoes can't be completely ruled out. But the dynamics, Bham still 76/58, just aren't there for discreet supercells this far east. Even Tuscaloosa, usually considerably more humid than Bham has a dewpoint of 61. I think SW winds would've given more conducive conditions for an outbreak here. But its still early in the severe season. Just cause AL doesnt get hammered here doesnt mean were safe thru May.

At 4 pm cst some pre-frontal activity forming in central Alabama ahead of the main line of storms. Organization is more linear vs. discreet. Doubt it has the dynamics to work with to become a problem. Both Selma & Montgomery showing 80/59 at 4 pm cst. Don't know about the other instability contributing values.

Kinda surprised a Tornado Watch is being issued that far east given the convective trends and the environment in place. Could always be a surprise though.

Well, seems to be getting a little more intense. Lol I always have the best timing when comes to this kind of thing.

Far away from the radar site, but this actually looks pretty nasty. I’m assuming this is what dropped the confirmed TOR.

Yes. Lots of broad rotations embedded in the QLCS line entering West Alabama now. A spotter-confirmed tor is just NW of the Livingston (Al) area.

It's 75 at 5:30. WSB Glenn Burns said the line is outrunning the front, which should dampen the tornado threat...but I'm not convinced with the soup we have now.

TOR for Bay Springs, MS!
