COVID-19 detected in United States

I really really hope so. We won't dent this thing until everyone has access and is ready and willing to get it. I'm hoping with Moderna's approval we can get to phase 1b and 2 very soon.

So far the side effects I've experienced are: Sore arm, being extremely happy about the sore arm
 
Both my kids are MDs (one in TX and the other in FL) and they both got the vaccine this past week. My son who usually has a mild reaction to the flu shot had no side effects except for a sore arm for 2-3 days. My daughter did have 99.6° fever the night after the shot and body aches. Felt better the next day but still some slight body aches so she did experience side effects

Do you think all of the side effects have been listed? I have spent the past couple of days praying and thinking about whether I or my family should get the vaccine when it becomes available.

Several factors have come up about vaccines lately.

These are my thoughts about the research I have done. And no my research didn't involve reading Facebook or listening to naysayers. I went to the actual sites regarding the Vaccine, and to other sites that try to detail the ingredients of the vaccine and how it is created.

For example. Could anyone here tell me exactly what 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine is? It seems to be some kind of oil or lipid used to isolate the protein but I am not 100%.

First, they use Foetel tissue from aborted Fetuses. This is a major issue for many in the Christian community because of the sanctity of life that we believe in. However, it is noted that the fetal cell tissue that is utilized is from abortions that were many years ago. I believe though that as a Christian, I am not giving into the abortion argument if I take a vaccine. We utilize many things that are of this world. If it were a sin according to God, Thank Goodness Christ died for our Sins.

Second, the side effects of the vaccine have not been fully identified. But considering that it is not much different than many other vaccines, I can't think that it would be much different in the side effects. The major part that scares me though is that they use a protein for the vaccine. When we think of proteins we mainly think of food. However, it is a misfolded protein called a prion that causes Chronic Wasting Disease in Deer and Cattle. While it may not be a legitimate fear, it is still one I think about.

Third, Having tested positive for Covid and having had to quarantine for weeks because of it, I am still uncertain as to what my immunity level to COVID is. Scientists just don't know. But for right now, I shouldn't be able to get it again for many months. So that gives me time to think about research and watch as the side effects identify themselves.

So long story short, through my Christian views, if those who have taken the vaccine do not show negative signs or side effects, and it really shows that it is a benefit to the community, I will take the vaccine. If it works, the benefits far exceed the issues that are associated with it.

Besides being here to spread the gospel and tell of how Jesus saved my life is an important journey.

Yeah it seems like a lipid-like compound used to house the mRNA encoding the spike protein as a substitute for a normal lipid bilayer. It may be involved in transferring the mRNA into a cell as well.
The spike protein by itself is harmless. It is the key to a lock and without anything getting into the opened door then there's no threat of invasion. It's basically training your body to watch out for that specific key incase it shows up again to try and gain access but with a viral payload.

A prion disease is rare, but it involves functional proteins that metabolize or do work. The spike protein doesn't do that kind of stuff and is pretty basic compared to complex prion proteins.

I can't comment on the fetal topic though, that's not something I've read about and it's a personal objection from my standpoint and one I respect.

Overall I have also read as much research into the vaccine as I could find and it sounds like a very sensible and safe (and ingenious) product.

Jay, I’ve heard some Christians say that the Coronvirus Vaccine is the Mark of the Beast. Based on your research, is there any truth behind that claim?

No. The mark of the beast is a very specific mark on the body physically visible. Like a tattoo or something that you are identified with. I understand their concerns but there is no actual truth to it. It is just being fearful of it.

Revelations 13:16-17
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

I don’t have any comment to make other than kudos to you for doing quality research about what you may put in to your body.

vaccines are important, but no medicine should be taken lightly.
 
There's so many covid patients we've been filling up the waiting room and are triaging and holding people in the garage. It's outrageous. Been seeing quite a few with oxygen saturation as low as 60s and 70s, we ran out of BiPAP and oxyflow machines today for a couple hours as well. I wonder what the statistics will show for the next couple weeks..

There's a lot of positives that may be Christmas related but the sickest people were positive before then, so were infected several days before Eve and Xmas - maybe shopping. We're starting to see some positives from people who reported possible exposures at family gatherings.

My understanding is the the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines did not use aborted fetal cells in R&D or production since they are mRNA-based vaccines. The Astrazeneca/Oxford vaccine, however, did use aborted fetal tissue lines in its development. That was definitely a concern of mine -- as were some of the potential side-effects that have been mentioned. As it stands, I'll take the vaccine as soon as it is offered to me barring new information.

I'm a very pro-vaccine type of person, but I think it's always important to individually analyze any new medical technology or treatment including new vaccines.

If a person has had COVID then the immune system should protect that person for some time. Recommendation is they wait for 90 days after having COVID before taking the vaccine.

Agree. When I saw that last night it jumped out to me in a big way. I stay pretty well-informed about the news in general, especially as it pertains to COVID and the pandemic, and I hadn't heard that before I saw it on the UAB website. I have to imagine a lot of people are not aware.

Unfortunately, one of the biggest issues with the vaccine right now is not availability. Distribution at the state and local level is not going well in most areas. Additionally, the logistics of administering the vaccine to preferred groups is proving quite difficult.

I know we're only a couple of weeks in but we're pretty far behind the projections. Somehow we've got to get a handle on it.
