Severe WX April 1-2 (overnight) Severe Weather Event

That extent of damage to such forested areas is very seldom seen. As if the video of extreme motion wasn’t enough, that level of vegetation damage leads me to believe this was an EF5 strength tornado. Curious to see other areas along the path.

Looks like there may have been some ground scouring too inside the forested areas which, if I remember correctly, is more difficult to do than in other areas.

I'm not afraid to say that the Lake City tornado absolutely had EF5 intensity. I've only ever seen that level of motion in the more infamous F5/EF5 tornadoes.
It’s not just the motion that is suggestive of it, but the multiple instances of it producing horizontal vorticies. We usually only see that in high-end, violent tornadoes.

This damage out of Lake City, Arkansas is extremely impressive. Extraordinary damage to forested areas, ground scouring, vehicles mangled and thrown hundreds of yards, multiple structures completely leveled. Very clearly a violent tornado, probably the most intense of the year so far.

Just when you thought Diaz was going to be the Storm of the Year.....

(TBH however I fully expect the windspeed estimate for this to be lower than Diaz by the time the survey is done. See my earlier MEG comment for the reason why)

I’m gonna play devils advocate here, this damage looks like it would barely pass as ef4.

The “debarking” here is actually just the result of the trunks/branches being torn off, exposing the bark underneath.

You can tell because the areas where the branches/trunks haven’t been torn off there’s no debarking to be seen.

I’m also seeing quite a bit of shrubbery on the forest floor that still have all of their foliage still intact.

This looks a lot like Bassfield MS in 2020.

Catching up this morning, I was worried there might be more activity in MS/TN after I went to bed, but am still floored by what happened. My thoughts are with everyone impacted by all of the destruction left behind last night. Came across this video while making a visit to social media sites and it was a tear-jerking reminder that the elderly are often disproportionately impacted by destructive tornadoes.

Lake City tornado damage. At least one plausibly well-built home leveled and partially slabbed, extreme tree damage, scouring in open fields, and a pickup truck hurled a considerable distance and mangled.

Lake City had all the hallmarks of an EF4+ tornado. Damage in this vid - especially to that forest seems to reflect that.
