Severe WX April 1-2 (overnight) Severe Weather Event

Looks like there may have been some ground scouring too inside the forested areas which, if I remember correctly, is more difficult to do than in other areas.

Just when you thought Diaz was going to be the Storm of the Year.....

(TBH however I fully expect the windspeed estimate for this to be lower than Diaz by the time the survey is done. See my earlier MEG comment for the reason why)

I’m gonna play devils advocate here, this damage looks like it would barely pass as ef4.

The “debarking” here is actually just the result of the trunks/branches being torn off, exposing the bark underneath.

You can tell because the areas where the branches/trunks haven’t been torn off there’s no debarking to be seen.

I’m also seeing quite a bit of shrubbery on the forest floor that still have all of their foliage still intact.

This looks a lot like Bassfield MS in 2020.
 
Catching up this morning, I was worried there might be more activity in MS/TN after I went to bed, but am still floored by what happened. My thoughts are with everyone impacted by all of the destruction left behind last night. Came across this video while making a visit to social media sites and it was a tear-jerking reminder that the elderly are often disproportionately impacted by destructive tornadoes.
