That is what makes La Nina’s so volatile. The large temperature swings, strong gradient from large northern snowpack, and enhanced polar jet. I just don’t quite believe we will get through this spring without an event or two of note.

Some GFS ensembles hint at a severe weather strut beginning February.

Some GFS ensembles hint at a severe weather strut beginning February.

Maybe the less aggressive ensembles become the reality, but I can tell you it has been a long time since we have seen this potential on even just a few ensembles.

Funny how 1998 was a big year for severe weather, then 10 years later in 2008 and now potentially, a year ending in 8 has an active severe weather season.

Today wasn't quite as explosive as it could've been, which is a good thing. A combination of storms arriving before peak hearing as well as the complex over the Gulf probably kept this from getting too out of hand. We also had DP's actually mix out some overnight, at least in North AL..
