Hopefully the brief Fayette tornado gets added to the database, I'm sure it would be annoying to send a survey team for such a brief touchdown but really just need an exact location and should be fine to jot down a brief EF0

Hadn't really been paying attention to anything wx-related the last few days and now there's randomly a radar-indicated tornado just across the NY border a handful of miles from my house. Go figure lol. I have a friend in Roscoe (not directly in the path, I don't think, but very close) so I'm hoping I can get in touch with her to see if she can confirm. Briefly had a fairly impressive signature for this area.

NWS Binghamton, NY has issued 2 tornado warnings thus far this month. There were 3 issued in the month of April in 2019 and again in 2013. The most issued in April in their warning area was 2011 with 18.

Anyone else annoyed at the lack of detailed information from NWS Norman in recent tornado events? They put out the absolute bare minimum, with just the ratings, no descriptions of the damage caused by each tornado, a few photos, and nothing on the DAT. This event is more of the same. I guess we have to wait until the NCDC data is released? Not impressed.

Did they recently get a new MIC? I always thought their surveys (specifically 2013-Moore) were almost the gold standard at the time?

It seems like they have been back sliding. For the past few events, they've pretty much released no information besides the ratings themselves. Here's the DAT for their area throughout the past two years. Essentially no damage points to click on:

That’s super disappointing, and a bit shocking. Just because, I know before I was immersed in this hobby, anything Norman was the gold standard of tornados and severe weather research, forecasting, and analyzing.

Wasn’t Rick Smith the very one recently on Twitter calling people out about questioning the rating and surveying of violent tornados? And wrote an entire article about it? But then the office he is a part of is putting out subpar surveying? Kind of funny…

I don't think its sub-par surveying, it just seems like they no longer seem interested in sharing their findings with the public anymore, so we don't even really know what kind of surveying is going on at OUN.
