Saw this image posted a few minutes ago on the AmericanWx forum. Looks like clouds are starting to break and sun is starting to shine in parts of northern IL, MO, IA. Several posters in Chicago reporting the sun shining nice in bright.

Forecasted soundings in the eastern AR/MO bootheel/western TN area are pretty wild
That inversion right at the surface might be something to keep an eye onSoundings near AR delta later....

Yeah, it's showing up relatively consistently in soundings. We'll see if the hrrr is onto something other than crack.
I should probably follow up on that - Trey said that’s something to take into account but in the southeast and with some of the shear profiles that may not be a huge issue

It's definitely a variable, though. Bears watching.
I'm afraid your gunna have multiple violent tornadoes today. I really don't like the look of the northern extent of the event or the mid south one..

Norman at 12z gives an idea of what kind of airmass is upstream from the MDT area and waiting to be transported that way. Impressive mid-level lapse rates, deep moist layer, very strong low-level shear already.

At least one school canceling in Illinois due to the severe threat. I know that happens in the South sometimes, as far as I know that doesn't happen often in the Midwest.

A high risk will definetly be needed for the area around Illinois this afternoon.
