I don't see a weather history section but here's some more weather history for December 25th.

On this day in 1969, 2 tornadoes rated F3 hit the towns of Kaplan and White Castle, Louisiana. One person was killed. Other tornadoes occurred in Georgia and Florida.

On this day in 1974, Cyclone Tracy made landfall at Darwin, Australia packing sustained winds of 125mph, gusts to 145mph, with a pressure of 950mbar. Led to 71 fatalities and $645.35million in damages. It is the 2nd smallest tropical cyclone on record with gale force winds only extending out to 30 miles.

On this day in 1983, temperatures plunged to -1 in Huntsville, Alabama and 14 in Galveston, Texas. In Tupelo, MS, the low temperature was 0 and in Aberdeen, MS, the low temperature was -2. It only reached a high of 20 in Aberdeen and 17 in Tupelo.

On this day in 1987, Tucson, Arizona woke up to the first White Christmas in 47 years of records.

On this day in 1988, Las Vegas, Nevada saw snow for the first time on record.

On this day in 2004, New Orleans, Louisiana saw their first Christmas snow in half a century and the first snowfall in the city in 15 years.

On this day in 2010, North MS saw a White Christmas with up to one inch of snow in Amory, MS. A 16-year-old Johnny Parker of Smithville experienced his first White Christmas.

On this day in 2016, Super Typhoon Nock-ten made 8 landfalls in the Philippines. With max winds of 160mph, gusts to 180mph, with a pressure of 915mbar, it led to 13 fatalities and $123million in damages. It is the only known category 5 tropical cyclone on Christmas Day and the strongest tropical cyclone worldwide to occur on Christmas Day.

Some say the wind damage associated with Cyclone Tracy was so extreme, it had to have had a tiny core of Category 5 winds which unfortunately made a direct hit on the city.

...and four months later, his first (and hopefully last) EF5 tornado.

Yeah. Some people around here dread a White Christmas now because they believe the tornado was linked to that. IDK but every time I mention the possibility of a White Christmas, they're like, Well Johnny you know the last time we had one we got a tornado.

General pattern looks to support multiple strong/severe threats in the southeast around/shortly after New Years, and a good bit of rain in general. Looks like pacific air floods the country and multiple systems eject out of the west and swing up into the Midwest/Ohio Valley.

It's a beautiful pattern for the western drought, much of the west looks to see a lot of valley rain/mountain snow over the next 7-10 days. Looks like mostly rain for me near Ogden, UT, maybe some snow by the end of the week.

As mentioned by @JBishopwx a heavy rain/flash flood and severe weather threat is on the horizon. The last time we had a severe weather threat around New Years was 2010/2011.

Looks like I am right in the middle of it, SMH.. If the SPC ends up highlighting this area, I might make a thread and watch carefully.

Well if I don't pick up a ton of rainfall between now and the end of next Saturday, my total rainfall will be the lowest in the last 3 years. The last three years my total rainfall has been over 70 inches. 2019: I had 70.05. 2020: I had 78.95 inches (the highest total I've ever measured), and 2021: 75.41. A combined total of 224.41 inches (thankfully not all at once! LOL!) As of today, I've had 59.35 inches which is near the yearly average for my area.

It looks like there are a few snow showers across the Tennessee Valley. Due to the dry air at the surface, most of the precipitation is not hitting the ground.
