There's a lot of signs that this "spring wave" (really only a wave in the NE, and only a large wave in Michigan) is peaking, which lines up roughly when it peaked last year. Cases and hospitalizations should start falling pretty sharply in there in the next couple of weeks, which will cause the national statistics to start dropping as well.

Michigan peaked around April 12/13. Cases and emergency department visits in Michigan are now quickly on the decline. Last year they peaked around April 5, this year it was around April 12. Hospitalizations there should peak this week, then start a rapid decline. Fortunately Michigan is really the only area in the US to have a spring wave on par with their winter/fall wave.

What happens this summer should tell us a lot about where we stand and where we are headed. The southern/sunbelt wave that occurred last summer should be expected to occur again this summer, but the number of hospitalizations and number of deaths should be reduced (hopefully significantly) from last summer's wave.

Alabama hospitalizations for Covid bottomed out at 301 on April 9... they have been steadily climbing since then. Today they were up to 372. I don't know where to find the numbers in ICU per date but assume they are starting to rise too.

My dad may have Covid even after getting his second Pfizer shot 4 weeks ago. Test results are not in yet. He is experiencing many symptoms but still has good taste and smell. However, he's had a fever for at least 3 days and his oxygen dropped into the 80s for a little while before stabilizing around 90. He's been able to avoid the hospital so far. The test results will be interesting.

Doctor said it's not covid but pneumonia. Oxygen level at 82 and going to hospital. Not sure if covid can be ruled out yet though.

I'm a bit surprised by the increase in hospitalizations at the moment, since emergency department visits in the state have continued to decrease (usually the best leading indicator) and there's only been a slight uptick in cases.

KoD, I've seen an increase in hospitalized patients in the Huntsville Hospital system from 37 on April 7 to 62 today, have you noticed any uptick in people coming in?

In case you get fooled into thinking the CDC knows anything about how this virus spreads, here's the CDC head's comments on Michigan from April 12th.

Michigan peaked April 12th, without any new restrictions, and is currently falling like a rock.

He should have been one of the first to test on himself? Seriously cut the BS did not want to jump the line. There is a reason has nothing taken it. Because it’s not been tested long enough. Yes Covid is real that I agree and it’s deadly but this virus will not be contained till it’s done doing what it wants. Nature always finds a way to clean the earth. Sadly that’s just truth.

That argument could be made for every other virus that we've mostly eradicated.

I agree but this virus to me is much different. I believe it escaped from a lab. Even if did not like Ebola. They have not yet found a way to treat it. I did read where the cdc does believe Ebola will mutate and eventually get into the major population areas. That is a scary thought. Hopefully never does. Hopefully Covid does not mutate enough to become like the resistant TB that is now out there. Nature is amazing and deadly at times. That is wx also included.

Hey, you know a great way to help prevent it from mutating? Get vaccinated.

Sounds great if it works and for how long. I might in a year or 2 if I see it’s working and there is no side affects and it’s FDA approved. People are having side effects to severe side effects to even death. Yea happens with flu vaccine but not at the % these vaccines are. Yes you want proof but all you have to do is Google it yourself. Here are examples. Yes I am aware there are chances of reactions with any vaccine. With the Pfizer ceo not having it. That to me is a huge red flag. Like I said I will wait to see the effects in the long run and what happens with next round of vaccines. See how bodies react then.

Yep, that’s pretty much what I expected.

New cases jumped to 682 today... that's the highest amount in over a month (excluding the days where they added in backlogged cases). What is confusing and concerning to me is why the cases are going up with so many vaccinated and having antibodies from already having the virus. Makes me wonder if this is a result of the relaxing of mask and gathering restrictions or the influence of the variant strains or just an anomaly. Let's see what happens over the next few days... hopefully will be going back down.

Yesterday had a backlog reported as well, Mobile County reported over 250 cases.
