January 23-25th Winter Wx

Be glad you ain't me. Here's what NWS GSP says I'm about to see:

* WHAT...Damaging icing expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations
up to two inches and ice accumulations between three quarters inch
and one inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.

* WHERE...The mountains of northeast Georgia, upstate South
Carolina, and portions of southwest North Carolina.

* WHEN...From 1 PM this afternoon to 1 PM EST Monday.

Oh joy- more trees will be coming down as if Helene didn't do enough a year ago. Maybe the 40mph wind gusts coming from the north will drop them away from my camper this time. High temps from just above freezing through Monday morning then dropping to 8f sunrise Tuesday and not getting above freezing through at least Thursday night so whatever I get I'll keep for awhile. This one will be record-breaking.

I should be good as long as the trees are nice to me but will likely lose phone and internet sometime Tuesday. Here we go!

Yeah, we're going to have some problems BMX north I think, at least for a little while - and maybe a lot, if this saturates the column well and locks in the cold more. I have a glaze on my car, and I'm sitting right between 30 and 32 here with light freezing rain. Watch the bridges... HRRR has us back up to near 50 by 1pm, I'm just not at all convinced of that, but hoping... an early morning glaze of ice is as close as I want to get, thanks.

Not a peep in the 'Boro yet; colder than the dickens, but I expect that will change soon. It's going to be less of a winter wonderland and more of a, "ew, this mess is disgusting. I love it."

Definitely looking nasty your way, please stay safe!

At a glance, yeah, I'm not sure if the modelled temperatures are capturing the actual thermodynamics going on here.

38 IMBY in Birmingham. sat at 38 all night long.

It does seem a little colder than I expected off to the northwest. Little Rock area is between 8 and 15 degrees, Memphis area is around 15 degrees. If it stays that cold and the precip type turns to FRZ RN.... oof.

Freezing rain begins in MS, and we're probably gonna verify a significant icestorm here. Areas affected are W MS up to NW AL, Florence area in particular getting clipped. Worried for NE GA as well, the Carolinas will have no fun with that side of the story.
