January 23-25th Winter Wx

Be careful with using the total ZR maps verbatim. Sleet is going to cut into those totals across north Georgia somewhat, based on forecast soundings. Still a decent ice event, and someone will hit the unlucky jackpot of threading the needle and getting a pure ZR event over traditional CAD areas of N/E GA. I’ve only looked at north and central Georgia, so this may be a different story to our west.

I'm surely hoping for more snow like the GFS is suggesting instead of the ice storm, but unfortunately, the GFS is the only one showing that possibility.

I live around the Bedford area of Virginia, and we haven’t had any real impressive snow storms in the past few winters, but my phone weather app was saying 7-8” of snow for the 25th yesterday and it is now saying 5-7” today for the 25th. If we get that much, it will be interesting to see.

12z Canadian GDPS and 00z/6z/12z Euro still promoting See Johnny On Ice. The consistency with this from the Euro is uncanny

A substantial and troubling amount of model consensus on the globals for a potentially significant winter weather event in the South over the weekend. Furthermore, there seems to be a high level of agreement on a zone of freezing rain or non-snow frozen/freezing precip somewhere in the Southeast, setting up along the freezing line. All signs point to the possibility of a major winter storm.
