a) Yucking it up with the Saudi prince over the brutal murder of an American journalist that he (MBS) was responsible for and blaming the victim.

b) Didn't a bunch of people get up in arms over this exact rhetoric for Charlie Kirk?

This statement is utterly and irrevocably corrupt and insane. If your political system would be damaged by the details regarding a pedophile/human trafficking ring, it deserves to be burned to the f*cking ground. Period.

The White House just blasted this out under the headline "Good News You May Have Missed"

Oh so it's good news that they're reducing foreign student attendance at universities, which (by the way) helps keep costs down for tuition for domestic students. Trying to make higher education only accessible to the upper class.

If this wasn't from a mainstream journalistic source, I wouldn't believe it: Grok said on Monday that the poison gas at Auschwitz was used to disinfect shower stalls!

Grok, which I had to block today because it has begun to appear in X search results.

Oh but tone down the rhetoric is what Republicans said. Really? Are you f*cking kidding me?

No healthy president of either party would say that or some other things he has said lately (the McDonald's convention speech, for instance).

Now it's Vance's turn to do his very difficult constitutional duty. Harris couldn't; can he?

Vance is too busy posting in neo-Nazi chat groups for that.

It doesn't matter. With Donald Trump, pushing 80, crumbling before our eyes, we need Vice President Vance, and we need him now.

The whole nation needs him, whether he likes it or not.

I hope Vance is a true believer. Christianity (which is not my religion) has a way of selecting the most unlikely people for great things.

And I think it would be in line with that faith for someone wearing blinders to take them off and suddenly see the wider world, or Creation, in every one of our 340.1 million faces.

Only then could another wonderful facet of Christianity kick in: reason

And with that, Vance or anyone in such a position would be untouchable in practical terms in these 2020s as he skated circles around all the people who are still stuck in the mud of hatred, cynicism, and too many decades of decadence -- saving the world (how, ?, but America is the world's hope now, as it always has been).

Frankly, too, I can't see any other way to save this country as it is and always has been: a whole, just like every other country.

The real question: Do we all deserve a miracle?

Well, so much for MTG. It was only a matter of time.

Yep. It was obvious as she started taking a stand the hounds would attack. The kooky extremes dominate both parties these days, and if you step out of line, you become a pariah. The Democrats are beginning to turn on Fetterman as well. Neither side care much for principles.

Meanwhile, in money circles (emphasis added)...

WASHINGTON, Nov 22 (Reuters) - U.S. officials and lawmakers are increasingly concerned about a meeting last month in which representatives of the Trump administration met with Kirill Dmitriev, a Russian envoy who is under U.S. sanctions, to draft a plan to end the war in Ukraine, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.

The meeting took place in Miami at the end of October and included special envoy Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and Dmitriev, who leads the Russian Direct Investment Fund, one of Russia's largest sovereign wealth funds.

A close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dmitriev has taken a leading role in talks with the U.S. about the war and has met with Witkoff several times this year. The Trump administration issued a special waiver to allow his entry, a senior U.S. official told Reuters...

Ukraine, Europe, and the rest of us non-members of the billionaires' boys club can just wait until they tell us our opinion (which somehow is always "Fight, fight, fight" while the fronts get richer and richer, and more and more shameless).

I look forward to her future career, and MAGA's, too, after Trump's odd day. (Link is paywalled but public part includes that wonderful statement of hers.)

I still see way too much hope in this thread that things will ever go back to any sense of normalcy. If anything, things are going to get much much worse.

Just thought I'd provide a nice optimistic overview of where we're headed. The average voter simply does not care about much of anything unless it directly and personally impacts them.

I don't have any hope for this country. The far right and far left have WAY too much power over each of the two mainstream parties. Wake me up when both parties are completely destroyed, the House has been expanded, and 9 jokers in robes no longer have total sayso over what is "allowed" in our country.

The House expanded?

Scott Mark Kelly carries impressive weight, and now the FBI is reportedly on them all, so I looked for a little more layperson info on the law of the sea and found this long, dry read.

The UK is reportedly no longer sharing intelligence with us in this area out of concerns of legality, not wanting to be complicit, and if I understand that long, dry read, there are conditions in which the ICC could step in -- these apparently don't exist yet, but what if they eventually do?

"Greatness" and "global pariah" are two very different things.

I'm close enough in age to WWII to remember some of the fallout from the Nuremberg trials, etc. The ongoing swatting of flies with a railgun and then boasting about it extrajudicial killings are by no means comparable in either details or evilness to the Third Reich's crimes, but the relevant point is that it showed me that soldiers cannot say "just following orders" and get a pass.

This is good.

I never thought it would possibly be applied to US armed forces. I thought we were far better than that.

When I get a moment, I'm going to look into exactly what Kelly and his group say. They might be trying to save our military members from the shock of unexpectedly but perhaps rightly (when all facts are in) being condemned globally as criminals.

This is a start.

In a time when psyops mass media rule and so much is shadows and light instead of substance, it's good to remember simple things, like the child who pointed out that the emperor had no clothes.

And to hold on to our good things as tight as we can.

This is why I've been talking about religion here in a political thread. How can there be "normal" without any concept of permanent Good and Bad, and the resulting human choice for Good because it leads to positive results over the long term?

All that we good people have to do is hold the line and pass on what we have inherited to coming generations.

It isn't easy, but then, whoever said it would be -- except people trying to sell us something (usually something that wouldn't really benefit us but would profit them)?

I am thankful to live in what is probably the only country in the world, thanks to its institutions and long practice, where this is truly an option for overcoming fools who think despots and dictators for life are something for an American to admire and emulate.

We all want to see America great, and the Honorable Taylor Greene's sacrifice has given me better understanding of and affection for those who unite under that as a slogan that is currently called MAGA.

Not that my outsider's appreciation counts for anything in this dark time. But I have the perspective to be confident that the movement that we called a "religious right" back in my day, and then a "Tea Party," and now "MAGA," is deeply rooted and well rooted.

This popular movement, under any name -- and not at all a Trump creation --survived the Sixties; it can and will survive anything.

Be FOR something specific and good, not in rebellion against any sort of Big Bad; wannabe leaders who try to use you will not be able to fool you; also, things will work out in ways that none of us can control, but they will be for good for us, if we are for Good.

Just focus on the only thing individual human beings really can influence: ourselves. And just look at our feet and the path in front of each of us, and go on, taking it one step at a time and trying always, despite inevitable failures (personal experience talking), to do the Right Thing.

It's amazing how empowering that is (also personal experience through some very difficult times).
