Severe Weather Threat May 17-19, 2025

Are there any photos of tree damage on the Dodge City portion of the tornado’s track? Wichita’s not going to rate any tree damage EF4 based on the single EF3 DI on their portion, but Dodge City has been consistently giving EF3 ratings to tree damage.

What is the hollow material used in the walls of that house? Never seen that before?
The residence it encountered is a pure stone house, like almost made 100% of stone even maybe some concrete, I'd call this a true EF5 DI if one can manage level it. It's unbelievable that a house of this fashion was built in the middle of nowhere in Plains.

Strongest tornado of year no? Some said..
Hard to tell right now. I’d wait until I see more damage pics come out from that area. For right now, I think these have been the strongest of the year based on the damage they produced.

Bakersfield, MO.
Tylertown, MS.
Diaz, AR.
Lake City, AR.
London, KY.
Grinnell, KS.
Plevna, KS.

Yeah I just remember seeing some mets on X or here saying so.

This well illustrated the inconsistency between different WFO, DDC might be one of those generous NWS office when it comes to tor rating, the only other offices that willing to rate tons of EF3/4 DI purely based on tree are JAX and PAH I believe. Wonder if the Greensburg cell occurred in ICT's CWA, should we get so many EF3s.

As for the EF3 hardwood DI from the Plevna tor, here's some of them

Oh my lord, just found this DI from the Grinnell survey:

This is a 112 mph EF2 DI with zero comment on how the house disappeared and instead chose to focus on damage to neighboring homes. This is one of the worst surveys I’ve ever seen.

Oh, and it gets a lot better! Here’s a 113 mph EF2 DI to the north they just added:

Is it safe to say Goodland is the most unreliable NWS office when it comes to ratings?

I'd argue all the 5 EF3 produced by the Greensburg-Plevna tor were violent at some point in there life.
Here's the tree damage from the first one

Cyclic violent tornadic supercell. I wonder when we’ll see that again.

Is that ground scouring produced by the Haviland one? If so, that’s pretty remarkable.
