Severe Weather 2025

Looking ahead to this weekend into next week, looks like we will be dealing with NW flow and MCS activity across the Mid-South region

This is why I added the “I personally” to my comment.

Driving east away from the tornado is the next best option before sheltering in a basement. There’s not a single home in the town that would’ve remotely survived had it not occluded to the west. (Thank goodness)

Driving away from a violent tornado (when there’s no basement or tornado shelter available) is definitely only an option for people who are aware that it’s coming with at the very most 10minutes of lead time.

It’s a shame that it even is an option in the first place as one would think in a first world country every home would have a safe room.
Plus, the tornado was still thirty minutes away from the town in question when we were talking about driving away. There are some tornadoes that are simply unsurvivable above ground, and considering they move at an average of 35 mph, sometimes escape is the safest viable option. If i'm seeing 250 mph on radar, waiting around for half an hour for it to hit me in my closet feels a little like this.

I'm also biased due to the fact the Moore 2013 tornado only killed 24 people, and my unpopular opinion is Mike Morgan is the main reason why. That tornado easily could've killed hundreds, just like Joplin. Here's a timestamped link with about 60 seconds of what I think is one of the most heroic TV meteorology performances ever. He understood what was coming, and guided people to safety.

Just out of curiosity, how close were you to the Greenfield tornado?
An hour, but the same cell dropped another EF2 that hit a few miles from me.

I also had a friend who had just moved here from far away, and was working outdoors right in the path of another tornado. him and all his co-workers were standing out in a field trying to see it as I was desperately trying to tell him what had just happened in Greenfield and convince him to find shelter. He thought since he had faced hurricanes he could face a tornado. Tornado missed him by less than half a mile. That was a very wild/stressful day.

April 26th/27th was another really bad one. My fiance has a bunch of friends in Harlan, and watching that beast head straight for them was intense.

Recently, I thought about how quite a few people expect this past tornado outbreak sequence would probably be the last until this year's fall season. However, I feel like there's still a possibility (however remote) of something coming together some time in June. Ultimately, we shall see how things end up playing out regarding that.

It looks like starting this weekend we will have some southern plains setups again

…. Gotta love the awareness people have .. plenty of time to stop. As a very aware driver and what I see on the roads I am not shocked.
How do you drive into a tree!? That's like driving right off a cliff!
