Severe Weather 2025

To go with what's been showing up in voodoo land for around March 4th...

Day 4-8 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0333 AM CST Sun Feb 23 2025

Valid 261200Z - 031200Z

...DISCUSSION...
Moisture will start to advance inland across Texas on Wednesday/D4,
but will be shunted into the Gulf on Thursday as a cold front
advances south. This will result in minimal thunderstorm activity
for much of the extended forecast period. By Sunday/D8 and beyond,
most extended range forecast guidance suggests significant moisture
recovery across the Gulf and some inland moisture intrusion across
the Southern Plains and Southeast which will likely increase
thunderstorm and severe weather potential.
However, until that time,
thunderstorm and severe weather potential remains low due to the
lack of sufficient instability.

My main issue is: There's skill in projecting an above/below average severe weather season for large areas, but there's essentially no skill in predicting exact tornado numbers for a given state.
EXACTLY!

I had thought about doing the same spreadsheet with the North MS tornadoes by counties with Central Alabama, but the way Central Alabama's tornado list is setup, there's no way I can. Like with the North MS tornado database, you can search by year, by month, and by county
You may be aware of it, but here is BMX’s database. It’s a good start for research. Or building a county by county spreadsheet.

I got a question for you guys, is there any good weather apps other than radarscope and radar omega for this upcoming tornado season?
I'm not sure if this is what you are after, but there are 2 very good FREE radar websites which I mainly use on my laptop:

Quadweather (Pretty much exactly the same as RadarScope but completely free + they have 3D Storm Scans): https://radar.quadweather.com/

AtticRadar (Again, pretty much same as RadarScope but free): https://atticradar.steepatticstairs.net/

Love that these options are available. Whenever I teach people about the ins and outs of actually utilizing radar data they feel like they've gained superpowers; I think it's a really powerful tool that we should teach more people to use.

Not the strongest signal, but CIPS is starting to pick up on that possible early March system. Globals bounce between anything from a robust, compact, neutral-to-negative-tilt trough to a weak and sheared out one. Some interesting solutions from the Euro. Definitely the one to keep an eye on for now.
