Winter Weather Season 2025-26

18Z 3K NAM backed off a bit from its prior few runs, down to a "mere" 8.2" for Madison by 18Z (noon CST) Sunday. Even that would be exceptional for before December 1st. However the 15Z RAP was all in on a top-end big dog with 15.5" at the same time.

Both the RAP and NAM are backing off the totals in Iowa like crazy. We'll see what the 0z HRRR says an hour from now.

03Z RAP still has a pretty large area of >12" by noon Sunday. 00Z 3K NAM actually ticked up a bit, to 9.2" at Madison by noon Sunday vs. 8.2" on the 18Z run as I posted above.

The last time central Iowa had 12 inches in a day was 2004. If we managed to hit the 16 inch max possible accumulation it'll be the 3rd largest day ever.

Very heavy snow falling and moving towards Diaz, Arkansas...Hope their town is doing well since the unfortunate violent tornado on March 14th this year.
That'll shut the whole state down for sure. When I lived down south even a half inch of snow was enough to close everything. They don't have any snow plows. Snow removal people from up north can drive down and clear parking lots for like $1000 an hour or more usually. All they need is a truck with a blade attached and probably some insurance lol.

Oh for sure. Several heavy freezing rain/snow mixes currently in Arkansas so i will imagine closures are likely. Decent little event for those who like snow though!

How much snow did you end up with @CheeselandSkies? We got 11 inches in my neck of the woods. One snowstorm put us in the top 5 Novembers for accumulation on record!

Madison airport reported 11.7" I think I saw an LSR from an observer not too far from me that was at 11.0" before the snow was quite done falling.

The first half of the day Saturday we had pretty light rates and smallish flakes. Those ≥1"/hour bands in IL/IA took their time making it here, otherwise totals might have been higher yet.

I'd love a light dusting of snow over here in England. I often see snowfall coming down for a second but it's just a hallucination from my Schizophrenia but it annoys me because i actually love the snow, so it makes me sad that it's not there but then if i think about it too much i'll start to feel hypothermic and layer up even if actually warm (less common but still happens). I love the weather but my mind messes with it often into seeing things to get exited about n things like that.

I have plenty of funny/dumb stories with that stuff and weather lol.

looks like first snow of the season to our northwest tonight, but hopefully just rain here. I don't think we'll be as lucky on friday.

Good lord! GFS is trying to say it's going to get down to <-10 in the Northern plains on Thursday. Then we're (Iowa) supposed to get another 3-8 inches on Saturday evening. I love the snow, but this is getting a little excessive! Just throw this whole run out and hope it's gone by the 6Z update.
