Winter Weather 2025

And to tack onto that post, I do in fact think the door isn't closed yet on maybe another wintry weather threat of some magnitude in the Southeast, especially the more traditional areas. I also wouldn't be surprised if there are additional low magnitude "close call" type setups or additional days with flurries outside of another potential winter storm threat after the first week of February, if we do indeed go back into a colder pattern again.

There are some interesting runs on multiple models at the end of this month to the beginning of next month. I am afraid. it looks more like we may have some interesting weather. I would be afraid to say we're gonna have winter weather during this time. It is getting close to. that time that we make the change from winter weather to severe weather in the south.

12z Euro AI has a severe weather threat early February (around 5th). However, I'm not a big fan of the AI models so I'm dismissing that idea. Besides, I don't really use the AI models much if at all, but I do look at it on occasion.

TYLER! Good to have you back. To be honest, and I don't mean this to sound ugly, but I forgot about you being on here. LOL!

When I saw that notification, I was like OMG! It's Tyler!

Ha no worries. It's been ages since I hopped on here. I mostly hang out in the mountain thread on American since it's more geographically geared towards me up here. Good to see the forum is doing great and I'm glad to see a lot of familiar names still on here too!

Was hoping we'd sneak in a small event Monday morning but moisture has been consistently drying up on the models as we get closer, at least for our area. NOLA now has seen a bigger single storm snow total than I have since 2018 which is... ah... depressing lol. However I still have 2 week old snow in my back yard so I've got that going for me I suppose.

I'd rather not have tornadoes on my birthday. :)

Picked up roughly half of a dusting of snow last night, western half of the county got nearly an inch. Just enough to close schools for the day, evidently.

The night before last I had to go pick someone up from work at Midnight. There was _really_ dense fog and it was around 20 degrees out. The fog was freezing and the car had a solid coat of ice over it, to the point that the doors were a little hard to open. Just a slick shiny kind of ice, not just frost. That's pretty unusual in my experience as a life long Alabamian. I had to go really slowly both ways and it was just a miserable trip all the way around. Last night it was about 20 degrees warmer, and it felt almost like Spring to me, after the extreme cold of the past few weeks. It always seems like it doesn't stay cold long enough here for us to "get used to it", but this winter seems to be testing that. I know the cold will be coming back, but I sure am enjoying this little break for now!

I am sooooo sick of this warmer weather already...yes, I HATE summer. Any sign that we will go back to some cooler temps? It's supposed to be 80 degrees this entire week. Hopefully the pattern will flip back to how it was in January. I seriously need to move to New England or to Washington State or Oregon.

California has no real winter, but it still can be quite cold. After 2 very wet years we are having the driest year on record here, but there was some snow on the Santa Ana mountains last week, which does not happen very often.

Gonna be some record highs broken this week in spots I bet. Hoping the PNA spiking positive and a gradual run down of the NAO/AO through mid-month will help. MJO isn't doing us many favors but hopefully it drops into the COD instead of running up into P7/8. Nina has really weakened, too. There's always hope!

All my snow has finally melted off and we are in the midst of MUD season now. Need it to either dry out or freeze back up lol

The worst thing is when it gets warm and the trees start to bloom and then it gets into a deep freeze again

Luckily we are high enough up that isn't generally a big problem. I won't have leaves on the trees til mid/late April at best and the spots above me won't green up til May even in a normal year. I love living up here but the stick season is a bit long for my taste.
