Wes Wyatt says cool down looks to be coming to Central Alabama by the first weekend in October. This September has been brutal.

A cooldown will be excellent but more than anything I really wish we could get a nice tropical depression/storm because it's gonna take one to break through these bone dry conditions and help the drought situation; longer it goes on the harder it will be to alleviate it. Am starting to worry that our autumns are getting even drier than they typically climatologically have been.

Really need the rain. Hoping TS Karen pans out for us..just rain though no hurricane destruction..

Really banking on Karen if the death-ridge allows it. Not getting hopes too high that mom's namesake is able to make it this far, but if it does reach the Gulf, we will certainly take it over southeast Texas

Karen ain't making it anywhere near the Southeast to bring any relief. We will be approaching 2016 rain-free daily streaks if forecasts for the next week or two pans out. Many places in the Southeast are approaching one month without rain...if not longer.

Also, you have to wonder what are the chances of getting such severe droughts within three years of each other. Throw in 2007, that's 3 REALLY bad droughts within 12 years. We were still losing trees to delayed mortality just a year or two ago due to 2016. Not sure how much more the flora can take with another round.

Seriously worrying that it's the beginning of a trend, with 2016 fresh in mind. I know that not a drop has fallen here this month and the long term on BMX's AFD just sounds more and more depressing every day.

I think our only hope to break this is a potential Central American tropical gyre that lifts north later in October (similar to Nate in 2017 or Michael in 2018; sans the category 5 landfall). Otherwise, we'll have to wait for large scale troughs to sweep across the CONUS, which don't always prove to be drought busters.

Hints of a re-emerging El Nino on the models are dubious at this point. I wouldn't bet money on that, although last year's weak El Nino certainly proved for a wet winter and spring.

Latest Keetch Byram in the never ending summer. Alabama is way way up from the one posted above just over 2 weeks ago. Record high temps and no rain are taking their toll! Burn ban issued for the entire state.

We just had our 60th 90-degree day of the year in DC yesterday, which is the 3rd most all-time (the record is 67). We might finally get something resembling fall at the end of next week. We’re at less than an inch of rain for the entire month too.

Forecast going into October--This is crazy! Not seen so many 'HOT' icons in our forecast before and HOT wording goes all the way till next Friday!
