Solar weather watches

Posted within the hour:

There's a big coronal hole facing us, and a fast solar wind as a result. It's just starting to arrive. NOAA has a G2 watch coming up for the 22nd and 23rd, as of a couple hours ago.

Folks in the Northern Lights thread better charge their batteries! She guesstimates G3-4 from this event, similar to October 2024, but notes that many factors will influence what we get.

Frankly, signing on to X and immediately reading this did nothing good for my peace of mind. :)

These Sun-watchers get so enthusiastic about the most terrifying-sounding things!

Here's the Space Weather Prediction Center, again.

Here's her earlier tweet from a few hours ago:

SWPC reports they are watching the solar observatories, and that datastream is live through their website, but I am not a Sun-watcher, so ???.

This is another useful account to follow for live updates, if you're on X -- knowledgeable but not a scientist.

Meanwhile, judging from some of the comments to her tweets yesterday, Dr. Skov apparently wears red suspenders a red blouse when she livestreams. This is from earlier today:

Lots of images are coming online, of course, but this time-lapse from New Mexico is too awesome not to share (the Northern Lights thread is for members' own photos, etc., right?):

Wow!
