Severe Weather Threat May 20-21, 2025

This is a very strange event, because I feel like it's quite common to see Dixie events with huge wind shear profiles that underperform because of a bunch of other factors, mostly mode. This event has everything in place right now outside of maybe some mid-level lapse rates and impressive shear, so I'm interested to see what pans out today. Despite there being some impressive backing at the surface in a lot of the soundings, effective SRH values really don't seem to be very impressive today.

This is the first severe weather system I remember coming through this late in May in forever. Maybe not in the Central Plains, but in Alabama. And just think, hurricane season is just around the corner.
