Severe Weather Threat May 20-21, 2025

No one that I've mentioned today's weather to seems to be giving it a 2nd thought. The common response I get is "last time you gave us a heads up (during the 3/15 High risk day) nothing happened here."

Is there a rough idea of timing for when things may start firing off around HSV? I saw that Morgan Co. did move their graduation from 19h to 17h.

Could start around 7 pm in the Huntsville area, but the window keeps changing. I would just keep up with Huntsville mets and Huntsville NWS on Facebook or X.
 
HRRR is most aggressive of the 12Z CAMs, with a true mixed-mode for the duration of the event. All other CAMs have supercell clusters quickly growing upscale, and weakening by late evening. No real changes otherwise.

Typical cry wolf syndrome. One of these days its gonna be bad and unfortunately people are gonna get hurt or worse lose their life because of that mentality.

I've gotten many similar responses. Even from people who have lived through tornadoes. It's disheartening and a bit scary

Yeah I had to drive to Tupelo to get my kiddo’s allergy shot refill this morning, and my car kept sending me severe thunderstorm and tornado warning alerts. I love that my Subaru does that, but I wish it wouldn’t unless the storm was heading in my direction. It kind of freaked me out!

Odd - really dunno what the point of that is unless GPS is on and can send you location-specific alerts.

It does it if the warning is like within 60 miles or so of my location. I didn’t take a picture of it today, but here are some in the past. I like it because if we’re traveling on a cross country trip, I make sure I pay attention to our location and the weather.

MCS is really beginning to fizzle and pull off to the north, which will leave AR-TN-MS wide open for development later today. Will have to wait and see what that convection ends up looking like.

Up here in Ohio we get periodic tornadic weather, but nothing too bad. I've told my parents why a Weather Radio is needed, and they just say "I don't need a radio to get an alert, I have my phone". It's very, very scary how people don't realize how dangerous weather can be and think sleeping through TORWs is a completely normal thing to do. James Spann calls it the "siren mentality" and I fully believe what he says about it: people get so many false warnings that after a certain amount of time they just start thinking every warning is false, so when the big one comes everyone writes it off as just another blip on the radar.
