Looks like SPC went with a "regular" severe thunderstorm watch for the initial/Texas Panhandle-western OK portion of today's main event, but that doesn't encompass most of the moderate risk area.

The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
Southwestern Cimarron County in the Panhandle of Oklahoma...
Northwestern Dallam County in the Panhandle of Texas...

* Until 315 PM CDT.

* At 248 PM CDT, a confirmed tornado was located 5 miles southwest of
Felt, or 18 miles east of Clayton, moving southeast at 20 mph.

HAZARD...Damaging tornado and ping pong ball size hail.

SOURCE...Public confirmed tornado.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

* This tornadic thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of
southwestern Cimarron and northwestern Dallam Counties.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

To repeat, a tornado is on the ground. TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a
basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy
building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in
a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect
yourself from flying debris.

These couplets are already quite concerning. That tornado that was the beautiful stovepipe is still on the ground. Hopefully the upscale growth begins sooner rather than later.

TX panhandle storms are going Severe in less than 10 minutes. That’s just incredible.

In all honesty, this was unexpected, but looking at the mesoscale, specifically at the surface vorticity, magnitude of 3CAPE, and ESRH values of 200-300m^2/S^2, this shouldn’t be a surprise at all.

But it seems like even the SPC didn’t expect the kinematics to be this volatile either, because these tornadoes are touching down almost outside the 2%risk zone they outlined.

This is already more tornado activity then that other day was supposed to be (Friday).

I am shocked given the high LCL forecasted etc.
