Severe Weather Threat January 8-10, 2026

HRRR uptrending the UH tracks tomorrow. I've noticed HRRR in particular has a tendency to setup a hotspot for UH tracks which then shifts north or south in subsequent runs, so expect the area of highest risk to change, but a noteworthy change, considering that the HRRR was the most bearish earlier in the day.

Very impressive couplet in Louisiana right now

Of course, it's in the AR/MS/LA triple-point radar hole, because why not. Hard to tell how far down towards the ground the couplet actually goes, but 500 m SRH is 50-100 m2/s2 across parts of LA, so it may have enough.

The couplet has swelled larger and the velocities have increased, maybe because of the distance to the radar I'm not sure. But I haven't seen any ground truth yet? Any chasers on this one? View attachment 49847
Don't think anyone expected a front rider like this today, but we are scanning high up here. Environment seems to support something low end and brief but velocities say otherwise. We need a radar in this area.
