Severe WX Severe Weather Threat 3/14-3/16

Any thoughts on the storms near Opelika, AL? I'm visting in GA just over the border.

Came across this post just now, kinda interesting seeing a visual of all the tornado warnings from last night and today (up to this being posted on X of course) combined. Last night was crazy in SE MO/NE AR, to make an understatement.

The amount of times that something like this happens and GA gets missed is interesting. I have lived here my whole life and it's just wild how often this occurs.

It is absolutely wild how bad it was everywhere and (not just with this storm) eases off when it just about crosses the GA line.

Is there a scientific reason for this, or am I just finding a bias that I may be passively be searching for as a resident here? Thank you for anyone who can clarify for me, and additionally thank you for all of the insight that I have gotten to read about today from those smarter than me.

Stay safe.

I am SO glad I found this site. This has been a VERY long day/night. 2 hours in the safe spot and now its still pouring but no wind. Lightning has become very distant. No warnings near me but I know there is no way would be able to fall asleep due to being so wound up. I am sure the light of day will probably show off just how bad this was across the south. My heart goes any and all who suffered a loss in this outbreak. This rain cannot stop soon enough.

Memphis and Nashville nestled in an alley of tornadoes! Have some friends in both cities. They've had a pretty easy weekend by the looks of it.

The 0-1 KMH EHI. The rain has largely stabilized everything to the north (except for all the micro pockets of rotation Clancy is mentioning). The main tornado potential now exists in a largely untapped area shown. I'd be astonished if we didn't see another substantive tornado here.

From what I have seen personally in Troy, there seems to be no damage to the hospital. Lights on and ambulances arriving. From the emergency crews present and some reports I have heard (I can't verify them), there is pretty significant damage to the gas station and restaurants across the highway. I didn't want to get any closer.

Power is out over significant sections of the city. I saw a lot of tree damage along Highway 87 headed south. This is probably the area where the tornado first touched down based on radar. Again, power was out and it's pitch black so I didn't venture too far south to avoid power lines.

There is apparently significant damage to the city recreation center. Video posted to Facebook shows fairly large sections of the roof are gone. There are also reports (I can't verify or vouch) of significant structural damage north of the city between Troy and Banks.

Definitely a lot of potential for trouble down here in the Panhandle and AL/GA Coastal Plain.

Agreed, I'm closely watching the convection starting to develop here. The HRRR has been on top of this and wants to explode those into supercells in the next hour or two.

Can't recall if this was shared on here, but this lady on Facebook has a couple great videos of the Tuckerman, AR tornado last night. Listen to that roar! Reed Timmer shared it on his Facebook page, saying that the Bakersfield tornado was one of the loudest roars he's heard.

Same tornado that caused extreme damage in Diaz, AR. That thing definitely had EF5 strength.

This storm has a sustained mesocyclone and the rotation has been tightening with each scan. There's definitely a risk of a spin-up here.
