Severe WX Severe Weather Threat 3/14-3/16

Are there really people who don't know where their "safe place" is for a storm? I can envision a "family meeting" on the night before storms where the dad has a white board out and a pointer with a diagram of the house and the kids are all listening to him while holding a stuffed animal.
We have two. Downstairs bathroom for when caught off guard. Public storm shelter for when we have time to get there. Usually on days like Saturday is panning out to be. Luckily after the super outbreak a lot of public shelters were built. I don’t really trust houses if there could be high rated tornadoes. Not really sure why I’m sharing that besides for if some people are reading this with anxiety that need a plan.

Somewhat related but I have often wondered why more mobile weather apps don't make mention of severe weather in their forecasts. Most folks probably just glance at their phone app and say "oh, its gonna rain this weekend" and have no idea about how bad it could get.
Dear lord, yes this is the inference I get from talking to my completely weather-oblivious brother. "It's just gonna rain man, what do you mean there might be storms?"

I think people who follow the weather seriously greatly overestimate the weather awareness of the average person, even in a tornado-prone area. You’d probably be horrified to know how many people can’t even pick out their county on a map.
She's actually a really smart person generally, but I have a friend in Arkansas who doesn't know much about weather and usually reaches out to me whenever there's a severe wx threat to ask me what to do.

Also, guess I glossed over this while reading the mid-range disco by Leitman this morning, but explicit mention of a severe outbreak at the beginning of the disco. I don't have any specific memory of seeing that for mid-range forecasts in recent years in the Southeast, does anyone remember the last time we had that?

Work busy right now. Anyone see the 3k12znam for Friday night heard looked pretty interesting for Friday night with the tornado parameters
Dew points are the best I've seen in a bit for this system. >60° F dewpoints get up into the Missouri bootheel. 62 in Memphis.

Certainly seems to have better parameters overall than the GFS/EURO had.

I got asked just last night about what the tornado probability for Saturday will be. I'm like no idea yet. From people who don't know what county they live in or even what area they live in, it's very difficult to message because I have to hold back from what I really want to say to these people. And some of them have lived in the same place all their lives too.

Yep, was gonna follow up as that was the last one I could see.

Edit: Interestingly, Easter 2020 featured a D3 MDT.
I remember watching that hoping the tornadic storms would stay to my south. They ended up coming as close as one county south of me.

There often seems to be an element of personal responsibility missing when it comes to severe weather, lots of people really have no sense of self preservation when it comes to preparation and awareness; one can only inform so much before the burden shifts to the individual to put forth some effort to stay safe. Just knowing where one is on a map seems a basic thing any adult should know, but here we are. I don't envy those whose jobs involve public messaging lol

What is sad is they will be the ones interviewed on TV after they were hit saying they had no warning.

Thinking about my dad, who would stand on the porch saying "Dang it son, I wanna see it!"
