Severe Weather Thread - 7/18 - 7/21/2026

Yeah. It was 90/75 today in Lexington and I was struggling earlier while taking a walk. I hate hotter temperatures far more than I hate the cold, and considering the upcoming heat wave for the central US I’m very worried at the heat indices we’re going to see across a wide area.
Yea, unfortunately, a death ridge pattern is pretty much locked in at this point.
Classic Aleutian High coupled with a -NAO leads to insane Height rises over the west-central US.
To make it even worse, the PNA is negative, so you can expect low pressure over the rockies which will cause surface lows to continuously pump warm moist air to the north, keeping the dryline far towards the west.
It’s looking like temps will be constantly in the 100s for the foreseeable future, and it won’t be a dry heat. I just want it to be fall already.

Incredibly impressive velocity couplet. If you were to show me this without me checking the CC. I would say this might be a large dynamic pipe. KLVX - Super-Res Velocity 1, 5_28 PM (1).png

Confirmed tornado in Frederick Co., Virginia. Should stay south of Winchester proper but there's quite a bit of sprawl south of there on I-81 so there's a good chance it could threaten populated areas on its current track.

Honestly I'm surprised this thing is producing, doesn't look like much on velocity.

EDIT: never mind, downgraded to radar indicated.

I hear you. It's been miserable here for quite some time as well. The little rain that comes here and there doesn't affect temps at all and only pushes dews higher and higher.
