Severe Weather 4/17/26

The Lena tornado is reminding me of Matador. Both tornadoes had relatively unimpressive radar presentations, especially on correlation coefficient. But I remember @andyhb wrote in the Matador thread that tornadoes which come from HP cells often lack a substantial CC drop due to a lot of precipitation mixing in with the debris.

That makes sense, since both tornadoes were rain-wrapped and came from messy HP supercells.

Not saying Lena was nearly as violent, but from what I'm hearing, it was unfortunately deadly.

Go figure GRLevel3 malfunctioned and took a screenshot of my browser window instead of the radar, so I can't share a radar screengrab...

From a chasing perspective, I think setting up around Ponca city is the best option. Northern mode probably has a higher tornado risk but the southern risk looks much better for chasing. It’s slightly conditional but I think we get super cells in OK/kS for a couple hours at least.
Nailed it (I woulda left Ponca City hours ago)

Kinda was thinking something similar. From what I heard a subdivision was leveld via a scanner, so we will see if thats true or not.

Looks like Oklahoma decided to join the party.

Since we can’t do images, I’m going to write one out:

Imagine the Drake meme with his face photoshopped with the state of Oklahoma.

Top picture: Classic plains set up with a dryline and discrete supercells in the OWS
*turning away in disgust*

Bottom picture: QLCS and embedded tornados on a crashing cold front
*pointing in satisfaction*

I made it with love ;)
(I used GIMP instead of Photoshop though, so I hope that's okay)
