Severe Weather 2026

I don't know how many people know about this, but a few weeks after 9/11, an F1 tornado went right through Washington, DC View attachment 54940

A short distance away a few weeks after 9/11 was an F3 Tornado that hit College Park, Maryland and the University of Maryland campus.
Both were from an outbreak on the 24th in the region that included an F4 in northern Virginia. I think it’s fascinating that we got back to back years with violent tornadoes in the DMV

Speaking of severe weather 2027….. @KevinH
If you know you know ;).
Hahahahhahaha....

Apparently I created the 2027 thread too early and was burned at the stake for it. lol

@MichelleH, @WesL Is it that time NOW? lol

Should be interesting to see how El Niño affects the weather over the next several months.

(Side note @Brice W: For some reason, I wasn't "watching" this thread. I just happened to look at my notifications while reading another thread and saw that you mentioned me lol)

Allcaps "VERY" impressive

SPC...has marginal risk.
Something I’ve noticed: you’ll have people (most often chasers) overhype every little thing when we’ve been in a lull of any kind, whether it’s from being in summer or from a dead spring/fall. It’s fairly obnoxious but sort of expected when you take the psychology factor into account.

And the past 2 seasons being exceptional, especially from a chaser perspective, has only exasperated the hype. I fear for the 2024 comparisons that are going to be made next year

Well to be fair it was actually upgraded to a slight risk with CIG1 hatching...at the time I made the post, the SPC site was showing me the updated outlook time (1912Z) but still the graphics from the old outlook.

I might make a thread on the upcoming setup but let's just say I'm not optimistic about it. Subsidence in the warm sector, cells lining up in a SW-NE orientation which can cut inflow off a lot, but guidance trended cooler on 700s. That's a key tidbit. Moisture advection however will matter significantly too. I'll see

0Z NAM has pushed the unstable warm sector even further southwest, into Nebraska and Kansas. To think, 5 days ago or so the GFS had this as a decent setup for southern Wisconsin.

Best-looking 500mb trough we've had in a while, but all the forcing with it is whiffing the warm sector way off to the north.
