Severe Weather 2024

Whats up JP. I have a feeling if anything happens I'll end up somewhere close to Monroe county like always haha.
O you know it! LOL! When compared to the last few years, I haven't known what to do with myself this year with how quiet it's been. However, I know it's only a matter of time before it gets busy again. So, to pass the time, I've just been busy with updating and/or finishing my weather projects or starting new ones.

Before anyone asks when the last end of the year severe weather event was, it was December 31st, 2010. That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw your post @Taylor Campbell
I thought it was NYE 2021 with tornadoes hitting Carroll County, GA and the Chik Fila in Covington. I remember it clearly; that ushered in a cold, snowy January across the eastern half of the US.

It was. I forgot about that one probably because it wasn't as pronounced as the 2010 event. Curiously, there wasn't a watch issued during the 2021 event.

I remember there was a threat of tornadoes the night of December 29, 2021, but couldn't tell you if any touched down.
Looking back at that, I was in a 10% SIG TOR hatch that day. Thankfully, nothing happened in North MS and plus I don't even remember it. LOL! There were 4 confirmed tornadoes in Central AL that night. All EF0 to EF1. Lamar-Marion Counties, DeKalb County, Etowah County, and Chilton-Shelby Counties.

Well, after the utter carnage earlier in the month, these were a lot tamer.
O definitely. That's one of my biggest fears of something like that happening across my area during the overnight. I've got to figure out a way to keep internet up when the power goes out. That's what happened when the Amory tornado hit last year. I have a back up power generator for my computers, but when the power goes out, I have no internet. So I was in the dark with no way of knowing what was happening except knowing Amory had been hit and knowing full well I had narrowly escaped being hit by yet another tornado.

Need to use mobile hotspot or Starlink. Thats what us storm chasers rely on when we are on the backside of nowhere next to a tornado.

Yeah. I really need to look into that.

Oh, I suppose I'll just visit my favorite weather forum and see how everything is - GOOD LORD WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THERE

In all seriousness, while this is way out there in la-la land, modelling seems surprisingly consistent on a synoptically impressive presentation for this time frame. It could change drastically, or even totally disappear in time, but some of these values certainly caught my attention, especially for late December. The latest trends with the trough on the GFS are quite something.

If these systems weren't moving through so quickly, it would be a different story for severe weather. Since these storm systems have been moving through quickly instead of slower, you end up with very limited severe threats. Which I'm not complaining. I, for one, am thankful for the slower pace. However, something has gotta give to flip the pattern from Fall to Winter which usually takes a big severe weather threat.
Pattern is way to progressive currently…

Appears those graphics are from the 00Z. Also, looks like that on that run the potential event got pushed out in time by a day (the 29th vs in prior runs it was depicted on the 28th and drawing close to the inside-300hr mark).

06Z still has a system, but is considerably weaker with it. Lots of time to watch this evolve one way or the other.
I meant 00z. Freudian slip

Wx twitter and Reed are starting to talk about the end of the month *possible* threat. Some of the comments - good Lord. There are idiots among us that don't need Internet access.
I can imagine some of those comments being like I don't ever recall having severe weather in December? Must be those chemtrails causing it.

Social media has gotten unusable lately. Worst it's ever been. Between the election conspiracies, the government Hurricane conspiracies, and now every aircraft being a "Drone"...the outlook for people like us relaying life saving information to the public during storms is looking grim.

There is going to come a point where we are just chasing for ourselves because nobody believes what's truth anymore.
