For the last hour or so I've enjoyed the most beautiful light show with these summer storms moving through NW Arkansas. Seriously beautiful to watch.
1974 was one of the best analog year to this year before the season began along with 2011 and 2008.
It’s miraculous we didn’t have a tornado season similar to those( at least in the months with the most tornadoes)So much for that...

To be fair, March-April 2006 and February-April 2012 saw some pretty significant tornado outbreaks, even if the rest of the years ended up being quiet. If anything, La Nina seems to usually mean a quieter "peak" season with exceptions (2008 and 2011 being the obvious ones).La Nina really seems to be a mixed bag, and quite sensitive to the "strength" and positioning of the Nina conditions going into the spring and the impact of other teleconnections as far as its capacity to influence severe weather activity in the central and eastern CONUS.
1974 and 2011 obviously featured the two most prolific tornado outbreaks ever documented, with an unusually great proportion of them being violent, while 2008 was in my memory the most consistently active of the three (although I didn't experience 1974 firsthand as it was before my time) with periodic outbreaks in the Midwest, South, and Plains from January through mid-June.
OTOH, some other very quiet years this century/millennium have also featured some type of La Nina in the spring, such as 2006, 2012 and 2018.
Wow! Never in my life have I seen a classic tornadic supercell in Dixie this late in the year. Was this related to Claudette? When I think of tropical cyclone spawned tornadoes, I think of embedded low-topped mini-supercells that aren’t impressive on radar.
Yep, not good at all. Got quite a few friends and relatives of friends who live/are near there too.Confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado moving through the Chicago suburbs. Significant debris signature on it as well.
