Severe Threat May 15-16, 2025

This is interesting.
That's like one of those descriptions out of tornadoes from older Storm Data or Monthly Weather Review reports, where someone implies that it wasn't 'on the ground' saying instead it was 'at treetop level'. As I mentioned with respect to the 27 April 2011 Trenton tornado, what actually counts as a path break after which it's a new tornado? Can tornadoes skip again?

What I'm curious about is was it still doing damage during that time? Because funnels can decondense, but a lack of damage in that area would in fact mean it lifted.

The Somerset tornado's path is now viewable on Sentinel, showing quite clearly it was wider between the two towns:

Some interesting apparent terrain influence on the tree blowdown:

The Marion tornado's path is also visible, but not so marked:

Absolutly an unbelievable day that was. 2 EF-4s and multiple significant tornadoes.

One thing I noticed is the ratio of the tornado ratings.

2 EF-4s
3 EF-3s
11 EF-2s
24 EF-1s
15 EF-0s

Why do I bring this up? Its because for the amount of tornadoes there were, the amount of intense tornadoes (EF-3+) was quite high. It seems like any storm that did produce on the 16th either produced a brief rope tornado or a strong to violent tornado.

Seems like to me going through the Ef4 DIs, that the surveyors went upper bound with DOD8.

The photos attached to the DIs show houses made from a brick facade, the bricks are filled in with concrete, so not hollow.
There’s some anchor bolts as well, considering how long it took to but these out, it’s safe to assume the surveyors did their homework and went with Ef4 despite some walls still standing.
