Severe Threat May 15-16, 2025

This storm NE of Chattanooga is showing some persistent rotation. Fairly far from any radar sites, so hard to know if any of it is close to the ground.

Watching the videos of the tornadoes that touched down earlier, I’ve gotta say I was extremely impressed with the motion on them. The tornado close to Morgantown was pretty insane looking, wouldn’t doubt it if it ended up inflicting EF4 damage somewhere. The debris clouds just had that nasty, violent look to them. That single supercell lasting for 500 miles is absolutely ridiculous. I had some doubts about how discrete the 15z HRRR looked and the event ended up much more discrete than even that.

It’s pretty horrible that so many people lost their lives, though. Especially with an event that had a lot of “issues” with it initially. I’m completely mindblown to say the least.

WOW! What a day. My local weather friends had a little pre-chase gathering at one of our houses and we ended up watching this all play out together, so that’s why I was missing in action here on the forum. Sucks that it was another deadly outbreak though. Hopefully the rest of this sequence isn’t as devastating.

Will likely hit the road and try to get in on the action on Sunday.
