Looking to help standardize the rules and standards we use for our tropical forums. We have been loosely following these rules and would like to get your input for finalization.

Unnamed Areas of Intrest (Invests, Potential Tropical Cyclone, and Tropical Depressions)
  1. When the NHC announces an invest a thread can be created by any member.
  2. Moderators or Admins should add this post to the sticky list.
  3. Moderators or Admins should apply the INVEST or Tropical Depression label to the thread.
Should we add a Potential Tropical Cyclone label? Would PTC suffice?

Named Storms (Tropical Storms and Hurricanes)

  1. If there is an existing thread for an unnamed storm, the moderators or admins should update the name of the thread to reflect the status and name (i.e. Potential Tropical Cyclone 22 to Tropical Storm Thor). In the event of a hurricane, the addition of Major Hurricane should be added when the storm crosses the threshold from a Category 2 to Category 3 storm. (i.e. Hurricane Thor to Major Hurricane Thor)
  2. Admins or Moderators should apply the proper label of Tropical Storm or Hurricane to the thread.
  3. Admins will add the storm to the quick links notice as defined in the SOP area.

Any reason we should list out the category in the thread? Labels?

Last Advisory

  1. Upon NHC announcement of a last advisory the moderators or admins should remove the sticky
  2. Change label to Archive
  3. At this point if the storm made landfall and causing significant weather events past last advisory status a new thread can be created in General Weather and sticky status applied.
  4. Admins will storm from quick links notice. If this is the only storm the notice should be turned off.
Did I miss anything? Please feel free to chime in on what you like and don't like.

Just my opinion... but I would not be as quick to archive a thread when NHC gives "LAST ADVISORY," as they have a history of regenerating on occasion. Perhaps removing the sticky but waiting to archive until end of season?

Thanks for the input. We can always pull it out of archive and normally by that time an inland threat topic is already rolling.

After adding the tropical storm/hurricane label to a thread, it seems pointless to me to sticky the thread since it'll be getting frequently bumped to the top due to regular activity. After the last advisory, a archive label seems fitting but I Wouldn't care to see the thread locked. Others may have photographs and images from the event/disaster/history. By seasons end, they can be archived and locked if that's what most of the users want to happen. -Or my thought would be to move it to an archive subforum either as a locked duplicate and keeping the original open in its original board --or moving it entirely too the archive subforum unlocked.
(I just don't like having an important thread locked from further discussion)
