A little late to the conversation, but I'm failing to see how the models were wrong? The snow, ice, and sleet totals have barely changed. They've just moved North. People who were on the southern edge of the snow have been consistently warned that even a slight move North would turn the snow into freezing rain.

Forecast 4 days ago: "It looks like there's some big snow potential but if the system moves north it'll be freezing rain".

Weenies: "These models make no sense!!"

Neither the meteorologists or models have been wrong. WX Twitter and hype casters were wrong, and if you listened to them blame yourself.

A lot of us are in Alabama, and the forecast for most didn't go from snow to freezing rain. It went from freezing rain or wintry mix to cold rain. Earlier in the week, it looked like some icing practically down to Montgomery and now it's cold rain all the way past the Tennessee state line. Big shift for us.

At least I now have a propane heater if I ever need it. It just arrived.

I had a just arrived battery charger!! I can charge my phone 10 times in the rain and pull in my battery powered lamp via C- port . This storm/models cost me 70$ so far!!! Btw.. nice to have charged up for severe season!

Indeed, if nothing else, it's a jumpstart for us getting ready for spring.

I'm at $120, but I've been wanting one of those indoor propane heaters as an emergency backup since before this system, it just prodded me to actually spring for it. I also went for the conversion kit so I can use the 20lb grill-sized tanks on it instead of the 1lb ones. If I never need, I figure the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing it is there is worth it. I hate being cold.

I can't answer that. The ones I pay attention to are pretty clear about what they're showing, what they mean and what they could or couldn't mean.

The *have* to address these things earlier and more in depth than they would prefer to counter all the social media weather experts dominating Facebook, TikTok, etc. Their hands are forced. That is exactly what we've been seeing with the current system in question. I don't envy their

Do yourselves a favor. Get rid of Tic Slock and Dumbbook. Their forecasts are sensationalist garbage.

I was looking at the Mr Heater indoor propane ones as well. Would be a nice "just in case" backup. I grabbed some fans last severe season to run off of all these Ryobi batteries I have, might as well be cold prepared too.

That warm nose that could save Dixie has pushed that ice right up in the KY/TN border area.

I’m not looking forward to it, but I’ve got a good amount of food stocked up. If power goes out, I may just go to campus, lol.

Lexington has been in the bullseye of snow very consistently, so if ice comes into play too, that will really suck. Especially with the absolutely atrocious temps we’ll be getting over the next week, the snow will be concrete.

FFC has reduced totals in Metro ATL and surrounding areas. Trends looking better for the city. NE GA, W NC and Upstate SC still looking to get rocked.

I have had a Mr. Heater Big Buddy and large tank attachment for 15 years now. We lived on a 35 Viking and it was hard to keep the portion of the boat below the waterline warm with electric when it got below 20F. I was quite impressed, it would knock the chill off in just a few minutes. The only issue I've had with it was the lines needed blowing out with compressed air a couple times. Apparently microscopic spiders will get in there and their web interferes with the flow of propane.

They've trimmed back the 0.25"-0.5" area outside the perimeter.

Ah, much appreciated. Worth noting the time frame on the graphic only goes through Sunday morning though, so it may well be missing significant amounts of precipitation.

I read, while doing some research on repair of my gas grill, that spiders are attracted to the smell of propane.

We thought about heading up the road about an hour to Richmond to escape the possible ice storm, but at that point it’s a choice between:

1. Possibly over a foot of snow
2. Possible ice storm

This storm is so massive geographically there isn’t any dodging it. Just a beast of a winter storm.

The models are all so far apart still it's crazy. The NAM has shown the system wrapping up with rain before it moves out which should help melt some of the ice and sleet.

@JPWX Aside from Georgia, one of the areas that seems most likely to have major ice is northern MS. Definitely make sure you get your preparations finished up out there!
