January 23-25th Winter Wx

Death toll from this storm now stands at 34. Outages remain extensive across northwestern MS, on one of the coldest days this winter in the South.

unfortunately had to go outside today. 7" of snow with a glaze of freezing rain on it. this stuff is rock hard. thankfully the sidewalks were cleared off. my wife said the roads in DC were pretty dodgy though.

I finally have power again as of almost four hours ago as i type this. Lost power at 4:30 AM Sunday.

The late night and early morning hours of January 25th were a frightening experience. One that i am never going to forget. So many branches and trees falling all around the house. Genuinely the scariest weather event i've ever gone through, and i hope to never experience an ice storm again. I was genuinely concerned about possibly dying from a tree falling on top of the house and crushing me.

The roof is still fine...somehow. Two trees/branches either fell or rolled off the side of the house that my room is over. I pretty much spent most of the night and power outage duration camped out in the living room. So glad it's over.

I was genuinely concerned about possibly dying from a free falling on top of the house and crushing me.

Glad to hear you're okay! Sounds like a really rough endeavor, though, and I know a lot of folks out that way are still dealing with trees on homes and power lines.

We got down to 11.7 degrees this morning according to my Tempest in Smithville

BREAKING NEWS: I-55 is at a standstill on the northbound side. Vehicles are stuck and there isn’t a way to get to them. Panola County Sheriff's Office- MS doesn’t have an ETA on when it will reopen.

**Seems to be an urgent situation with possible college students trying to get back home along I_55 since Ole Miss is closed for the rest of the week and are stranded with many, many others at this time and projected overnight temps going down between 17-20F.

still in a deep freeze here. we're probably stuck with this snow for a couple of weeks at least. I thankfully don't have to go into the office this week but I'll take some pictures down on the Mall next week if the snow is still there.

I’m perplexed as to the deaths in northern states, I know there are some snow-shoveling related heart-attacks up there.
