Hurricane Isaias

OK, I'll say it (after catching up on sleep). This could have been SOOO much worse. Shout out to the shear and dry air for making an impact exactly when you needed to. :) If it impacted your place obviously it was bad enough, but the overall does not appear to have been as hard of a hit as feared.
This is true, although I will say I've seen Spann and others taking a lot of heat on social media today for "crying wolf"

Storms that are weakening at landfall are like that - they just don't translate their power to the surface like strengthening ones, in my experience. Those who can not see the benefit of warning for the worst case scenarios have never lived through a worst case scenario, IMO. Better to be seen as crying wolf than failing at one's duty to warn.

There’s definitely a different feel to storms that are actively intensifying just before or even during landfall. Charley and Michael are perfect examples. Some extremely nasty C5 wind damage from Michael and the video of Charley at the gas station speaks for itself.

Tbf the coast did get hit pretty hard, I think it's just that further inland it just ended up being kind of a nothingburger.
True - and like most storms, there's a lull between landfall and knowing the true impact. Absent power, word on damage is delayed.

Seeing reports video/pics of major structural damage near Pensacola and significant storm surge caused damage in low lying areas..even into Panama City beach.
.. downed trees.. roof completely torn off apartment building, rolled RV's, completely detroyed large marina etc, demolished gas stations.
Probably microbursts.. At least isolated major structural damage.

2.25 m anemometers reported 118 mph gust at two locations adjusted to 10 meters is 132 mph gust. Based on structural damage even higher than that.
