Hurricane & Tornado Anniversaries

40 years ago, a helicopter captured video of a tornado experiencing vortex breakdown near Fridley, MN. This was the best VB footage ever until Andover 2022.

I’m glad that tornado wasn’t more serious than it turned out to be as it hit during rush hour.

That was quite something having my home state get its first (and to date, only) E/F5 of my lifetime a few weeks after seeing Twister.

Cappucci shouting out Broyles is like the meteorology-circles equivalent of "Game recognize game." Only could be more so if it was Timmer, or vice-versa.

118 Years ago, a strong tornado outbreak impacted eastern New Mexico and the OK Panhandle. The strongest tornado of the outbreak would touch down near Mountainview, southeast of Tucumcari, and cause violent damage to multiple farmsteads in the area of what is now the Tucumcari Municipal Airport, killing a girl and injuring 13 others. Nine people in total were killed in the outbreak, with the Tucumcari tornado estimated to be of F4 intensity, making it the strongest in state history.
