Hurricane Hurricane Milton

Wow, lots of surge way south. Right front of an eastbound hurricane is south, so Tampa may be spared the worst surge (fingers very crossed) - but freshwater flood instead with those rain rates, wow! Not at all surprised that Milton has unexpected consequences.

Punta Gorda:

Intense winds from St. Petersburg; howl audible. Also significant surge in Venice, FL.

What's amazing is the number of people on social media and other forums saying Milton has just been a little wind and rain. They're saying it was over-hyped and has been a total dud of a storm. This mentality is EXACTLY why surge causes so many deaths. People simply cannot comprehend how quickly it comes in and how high it rises.

They also don't comprehend that peak surge doesn't necessarily take place at or near landfall. Soooo many variables from geography/topography to wind direction, coastal features, amount of rainfall, and the impact of nearby freshwater bodies of water and/or marshes, estuaries, etc.

Seeing people downplay Milton literally right after landfall is absurd.

As disappointing as it is, I am not surprised in the slightest.

Also, is he moving more north than east now?

Not my circus, not my monkeys. I'll just listen to these folks and vote against anyone who wants to cut their funding. They forecast for reality and warn for possibility, so if any impacts are less than they said had the possibility of happening, they hear about from those types. Unfairly of course - because without them, we wouldn't know what was coming in the first place.
