That or flood/rain water or a combinationWait, so Clearwater? Bay surge gulfward with the offshore winds?
Still got second severe wx season upcoming. We're not done yet.2024 continues to 2024 in terms of tornadoes, just when you think we’re done, Mother Nature throws another dart at us.
So far I've seen 53 sustained/96 gust Sarasota, 61/94 at St Pete & 47 /82 at Tampa Intl. East facing beaches in Tampa Bay are flooding.Worst of the winds impacting Tampa area now.

over 5 inches an hour!Really concerned with the flash flooding threat in Tampa. Rainfall rates are approaching 5 inches an hour
over 5 inches an hour!
All of that rain is probably routed to the bay, and now offshore winds are pushing that onto the peninsulaWait, so Clearwater? Bay surge gulfward with the offshore winds?
Wow, lots of surge way south. Right front of an eastbound hurricane is south, so Tampa may be spared the worst surge (fingers very crossed) - but freshwater flood instead with those rain rates, wow! Not at all surprised that Milton has unexpected consequences.
Punta Gorda:
As disappointing as it is, I am not surprised in the slightest. What's amazing is the number of people on social media and other forums saying Milton has just been a little wind and rain. They're saying it was over-hyped and has been a total dud of a storm. This mentality is EXACTLY why surge causes so many deaths. People simply cannot comprehend how quickly it comes in and how high it rises.
They also don't comprehend that peak surge doesn't necessarily take place at or near landfall. Soooo many variables from geography/topography to wind direction, coastal features, amount of rainfall, and the impact of nearby freshwater bodies of water and/or marshes, estuaries, etc.
Seeing people downplay Milton literally right after landfall is absurd.

Radar product "storm total accumulation" shows 9-10 inches across much of Tampa and 13-16 inches across St Pete areaIs there a way to tell how much rain has fallen in the last 12 hours in Tampa?
