Flash flood emergency for New Orleans. Storms have been training over the city for hours

Let's not forget the widespread damaging wind threat inland with Francine. I missed this bad when forecasting Olga in 2019. The Euro and other mesoscale models showed the high wind potential, but I failed to get the information out to my weather text subscribers. Instead, I just went with what the Wind Advisory said on October 26th, 2019. Winds to 25mph gusts to 35mph (Ripley, MS saw a gust to 74mph during Olga). I vowed to not make that mistake again especially when I see this Wind Advisory say max winds 25mph gusts to 40mph.

Do y'all think we'll really get the extraordinary rain amounts forecast this morning for much of North and Central Alabama? Maybe I'm overly sensitive from having to water my vegetable garden so much, but lately it feels like rainfall has been consistently over-forecast in our area.

I think the rainfall totals forecast in the flood watch are excessive, but we'll see I suppose.

I am thoroughly enjoying the wind though, so long as a branch or tree limb doesn't land on my house. I went up to an overlook here in Huntsville for lunch and the wind was delightfully strong.

Usually in training situations the forecast rain totals are underdone. I think the numbers they have in the flood watch are attainable.
