Hi, I'm Sean 'n I just joined the site. I live in Brownsville, Texas, but I lived most of my life in Omaha, Nebraska and I've had like 3/4 tornado events that I can remember, which included me seeing the supercell of what I believe was the 2017 Bellevue tornado(es) when I was coming home from school, and which included when I lived in Atlanta and that 2021 outbreak was happenin'. I'm 13, not sure if I'm allowed here if I'm 13 so ban me if you must, but for most of my life I've been OBSESSED with tornadoes, from an early age (like 5 or something) I wanted to be a stormchaser. I am a self proclaimed weather enthusiast and I often find enjoyment in bragging about knowing what a squall line or a rear flank downdraft is to my family lol. I usually roleplay as multiple people in GMod Tornado Survival things, and I draw tornadoes ALOT. I listen to Mitski (More specifically Retired from Sad, New Career in Business), and whatever 11 year old me was putting in my liked songs playlist in Spotify lol.
Anyways, I hope you atleast tolerated the essay long introduction from someone who is probably going to get banned because he's 13 and isn't really trusting of the part in the Terms of Use that states: "We welcome people of all ages." ^^
You're 13? I'm gonna tell your mom you made an account here...

Just kidding. Welcome to the forums. I can't speak for the moderators, but as far as I know TW truly welcomes people of all ages. So long as you're not one of those "F*** THE WEATHER SERVISE THAT TORNADOE WAS AN F5" screeching twitter weenies... lol

Ask @WesL, he would know... would this be an adequate keyboard for someone that age to write posts on?

Likely not. Sites based in the US require users to be 13 or otherwise get parental permission for users to share their private information (ie, email address).

I happened to be 13 when COPPA went into effect, and I remember the chaos in online communities, and also being very thankful that I was 13.

Sorry for the delay. My wife is having us clean out our storage downstairs to move it all upstairs. I'm sure in the near future it will move again from upstairs to the downstairs when the heat wave of summer hits. Anyways...

So yes, everyone is asked to supply their birthday for this exact purpose during registration. If a one-year-old attempted to join, it would be impressive and we may need to notify certain individuals in the government and such. Now if you were a cat... there are no age restrictions.

That being said, welcome to TW, @PinkDudee! We're glad you're here, and we hope you have a good experience.

I am Tommy from Lake Forest, CA in Orange County not far from Irvine and UCI. We have a very boring climate here, but that makes each storm we get extra special.

The most interesting thing about our boring climate is the microclimates. Sometimes the beach can be foggy and in the 60s, while just 10 miles inland it's in the mid 80s or even low 90s. One day I was camping in Lake Nascimento in the summer. That's inland near Paso Robles. It was about 105 F and humid so we decided to drive to Morro Bay for some cooler weather. It was foggy and in the 50s there, which was just a 45 minute drive. We went from danger of heat stroke to freezing our butts off. We got back after dark and it was still warm and humid.

Hi! I'm Will. I reside in the grand ol' state of GA. I got into weather when I was around four. I was at my grandparents house (they live in Raleigh, NC) when a squall line blew through and caused a few tornado warnings to pop-up. I remember being confused when my grandpa ushered me down to the basement with my cousins. Luckily, no tornado ever touched down, though there were a few broken tree limbs from the squall. After this, I became obssesed with tornadoes, and its kind of been like that ever since then. I'm really excited to learn more on this forum!

Hello, my name is Kevin. I'm in the great valley of East Tennessee. I've been interested in the weather since I was 3 years old (I'm 31 currently). My family calls me the weatherman, because when I was little, I would tell one of my uncles what the weather was going to be for the day, and he would give me a quarter every time I did. The worst storm I've ever experienced is the infamous 4/27/11 super outbreak. I was living in west Knoxville at the time. I remember back then the EAS kept blaring constantly on the TV throughout the late afternoon and evening. We had ping pong ball size hail, which is the biggest I've seen in person. There was a tornado about 2 miles from my house (I think it was an F0), but there was no way for me to see it. One of my dreams is to get to see a tornado in person from a very safe distance.

Hello everyone! My name is Johnny and I have been a Guest watcher here for a few years now. Completely into watching and learning Wx and Severe Wx development. Being an amateur "watcher" started after my Dad and I survived Alabama 1973 tornado #14 in a ditch (yes, giving up my age). Then the following year we moved 1.5 miles south and we lost our home (completely) to 1974 Super Outbreak #97 after surviving #96 blowing water on us from a creek, as my Dad took our whole family to get under a bridge prior to our home being hit by #97. I was 9 then. I saw #97 as we came out from under the bridge every time lightening would strike as the tornado entered Hazel Green. Anyone remember Ken Rainey on channel 31? My sister and I watched as he was showing on the old Air Force radar images of the tornado hook echoes over in Tanner. We went out to try and crawl in the driveway drainage tile before my Dad got us out of there. After all of this I had no chance not being hooked! I built my current home in 1995 next door to the property where we were in 1974 and it still remains active out here on the Harvest to Toney to Hazel Green corridor (my term). Experienced a near miss in May 1995 here 2 months after moving in. But the Softball size hail we got gave my new home an immediate facelift. Called my Wife out of the storm shelter on April 27 2011 to watch the upper storm rotation as the remnants of the Hackelburg tornado passed 3 miles to our South. A Political sign from someone running for office in Jasper fell in our yard along with other shingle and insulation debris. Trees blocked our view to the ground. Then another one on just about the same track in 2012.

Anyway I love Wx and appreciate all of the people than can forecast these dangers. Been to SPC (but they were closed) , but plan to go back for a Tour one day. Saw the threat on SPC Sunday night for this upcoming March 14th-16 event. Began texting friends, family, neighbors and co-workers on Tuesday evening. As I have read in here......you can't get some to watch on their own. I recently began doing some work on my job at the NSSTC in Huntsville where our Wx Service is located. I hope one day to be able to go behind the door and see our "Radar Screen Heros" (old Foreigner song!).

I’ve been on hiatus for almost 3 years…I celebrated my 20th Anniversary on here then I left to get my life in order. My life never got in order, just kidding! Life is good but what a journey it’s been. I was 35, a stay at home Mama with a teenager I was homeschooling when I joined Talkweather. Now I’m an almost 58 year old Memaw, the teen daughter is now a local politician that’s given me, 3 grands. Finally got it right, marriage wise, he says he was on Talkweather back in the day but I don’t remember him because he probably wasn’t a troublemaker! He’s a meteorologist, stormchaser and a gifted science teacher. I’ve moved across the state line to GA to marry him, we literally live on the state line. Much of my heart is still in Alabama.
I’m definitely interested in following the thread concerning this dangerous weather event and I’m going to read through threads and get caught up!
Stay safe and take care y’all!!

My name is David. I was active on the OLD TalkWeather forum (back in the early 2000s, I think). I live in Shelby County Alabama, south of Columbiana. I'm still a weather geek, and I'm in my 24th year in Law Enforcement with Shelby County. I am a Juvenile Detention Officer, serving as the Night Shift Supervisor and Training Officer. I also work part-time with UAB St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham as an Armed Security Officer. I was a volunteer FF/EMT for around 20 years, but I let the younger men have that for now, as I'm 64 years old.

I'll retire from Shelby County in about 2 1/2 years, but I plan on continuing with UAB St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham for a while. I'm not one to just "go home and sit down."

I am a General Class Amateur Radio Operator, and recently got my GMRS radio license as well. I got my ham radio ticket after James Spann recommended that I look into the licensing process. Having always been a "weather geek," I knew that a group of hams were active in a group known as ALERT, the Alabama Emergency Response Team, which maintains and operates an Amateur Radio Station at the Birmingham NWS Forecast Office located at the Shelby County Airport. I'm active with that group, and still respond to activations when I can.

I'm glad to be back on TalkWeather again! Looking forward to getting to know this bunch!

Well look who's chimed in! :) Great to hear from you Lori! My profile says I joined in 2017 but I've been a part of TW for at least 10 yrs longer than that. (I think all of our profiles must have been re-created in 2017 for some reason). When I first joined (probably somewhere around 2004-2008) Lori was the official "Momma" of TW for all of us. So now she's still our TW Momma to us long timers... and I'm guessing she could be the "TW Grandmomma" to all the new youngsters if she will stick around for a while :)

Hey Ghost!! I think 2017 was when Wes and the others started TalkWeather 2.0 after the crash… I believe TalkWeather goes as far back as 1999, when John Oldshue started the forum not associated but could be found via 33/40!!
I know a lot joined in Jan 2002…. myself in April 2002..
I totally enjoyed being called Mama Lori, by so many of the younger kids on here, now they’re all the age I was when I became a member, with careers (many in the weather field OR they chase) and with families!
I was in touch with many on FB till I got a new phone and I had to start a new profile!
I was getting worried about the weather we’re going to experience this weekend and knew I’d have sweet friends and people to talk about the weather!!

Hi everyone! I am the artist formerly known on the old forum as Mr. Mom! I see the forum is still here!
I am still in Huntsville, AL, working for Wal-Mart as a cashier (like I was when on the forum 2000-2007 or so).
My wife (Charlotte) and I will celebrate 21 years of marriage on June 9th.
My son John Robert will be 20 in December.
I still write articles, mostly for "Old Huntsville" magazine, and have a couple of book manuscripts that I am working on.
