That was definitely a fairly significant one; debris has backed off for the moment but remains in a very sheared environment despite slight veering of surface winds

My hometown is in the bullseye… I have my kids and parents take cover

Do y’all know where Brett is located? Where he saw the power flashes

I've been here since 2004, but never posted before tonight. My son is a student at U of Montevallo. He went back to his apartment tonight and was at a gas station when the storm passed. He said his car was rocking and Facetimed me with hail. Totally freaked out. I so appreciate the knowledge you guys bring to the table. Thank you for every single post. I'm originally from Tanner, Alabama. The house my parents built in 1975 was demolished in the 2011 tornado. Weird fact: this was the neighborhood that was hit by 2 F5s within 30 minutes from each other in the 74 outbreak. I have no weather background, but have lurked for years. You guys helped guide my son to safety tonight. Thank you!!

Small tornado looks to have touched down in Shelby county just west of Jemison. No warning currently though.

It has weakened since. It had a pretty tight, but not overly strong, rotation for a few frames there. Also looked to have a small TDS for a frame or two.

Yeah, I definitely see that.

SPC considering a WW for parts of AL and GA.

Just now? I knew we had thunderstorms in Hoover earlier but I didn't expect an am tornado. Now we will wait & see what NYD 22 brings. BMX mentions "unidirectional" atmospheric conditions. This could/would still bring severe weather but more likely strong straight line winds than tornadoes. Still SPC already has us in Slight Risk 2 days out which is impressive in its own way.

Glad to see you post!!! I’m glad your son was safe!!!
Tanner is one of those anomalies where they seem to be a little tornado alley during outbreaks!
