It's been over 230 miles from where the tornado originally formed northeast of Jonesboro, AR, but it almost certainly lifted back in Tennessee and then reformed in Kentucky. It may have been continuous from that point though, which would be like 140 miles. If this has been a continuous track through KY could this be a contender for the longest tracked tornado in recorded history?
Had this event occurred before modern records began I am 100% positive it would have been classified as one continuous tornado. It's been over 250 miles from where the tornado originally formed northeast of Jonesboro, AR, but it almost certainly lifted back in Tennessee and then reformed in Kentucky. It may have been continuous from that point though, which would be like 140 miles.
If it's possible to talk of silver linings right now, this isn't 1925, fortunately, and researchers now have lots of data on such a long-track tornado. It's some consolation anyway. Can't believe it is still this intense after this long, so far east, without many hiccups. Historic event.
If this storm was not out there and never started we would have been covering the other storms because there have been plenty of them. But even my novice wifey realizes this is a rare event and deserves much of our attentionCottage Grove signature from earlier, we are going to have many very significant damage paths, some lost in the shadow of the lead cell
