The Kelly Bryant situation has me rethinking the redshirt rule.. like Nick Saban said recently, it becomes a slippery slope when a guy loses his starting job in the middle of the season and immediately pouts and transfers while previously having no intention of doing so. I know I bashed Jalen previously, but his conduct over the last few weeks has proven my criticism of him earlier flat out wrong, and he has been admirable in this whole situation and I hope we can keep him on board.
With that said, Kelly Bryant shows the weakness of the rule. He had an opportunity the first 4 games of the year, got outplayed fair and square and was named backup for this weekend. Within HOURS, he jumped ship and apparently bashed Dabo saying that he didnt do anything to deserve losing the starting job and how it's unfair to him to not be the starter. Now Clemson has a true freshman at QB and he's their only scholarship QB.
I would be fully in support of an amendment to the rule stating only true freshmen can play in 4 games and redshirt. Letting upperclassmen do it once they lose their starting spot a whole 3rd of the way through the season is just turning CFB into free agency where star players can bounce around wherever with no penalty like Kelly Bryant.
