April 20th 2025 severe threat

Im confused at no PDS tornado warning. There's obviously a significant tornado going down. And one of the most impressive debris balls I've seen in a while. Maybe the velocity couplet not being super impressive is holding them back?

At the same time sometimes we have tornadoes that don’t deserve pds and weren’t that strong. I gotta research velocities more..

Debris sig looks impressive because of how close the radar is.
I remember at least several occasions where impressive-looking TDSs detected close to radar sites turned out to have been caused by relatively weak tornadoes. Someone ought to study how distance from radar sites affects the intensity of a TDS relative to the intensity of the source tornado.

Even with an impressive hook presentation?
Yes. I’ve seen literal blobs with hardly no discernible hook produce high end EF3-high end EF4 damage.

Radar proximity also plays a role. I thought Amory was going to be wiped off the map on 2023 with an insane radar presentation. However, it was close to the radar, and while the tornado was an EF3, it wasn’t violent.
