Not sure if y'all have been keeping up with the significant floods that have hit Tuscaloosa, but Walt's corrupt "good ole boy" policies have contributed directly to it. While letting his good buddies, who own construction and developer companies, build endlessly while being exempt from impact fees and taxes, our drainage and sewerage have suffered immensely under his leadership. Neighborhoods that have flooded once since their construction in the 1920s and 1930s have flooded several times since the construction of several large student housing complexes and shopping districts in 2010 and beyond. Normally, those developers would've paid taxes and fees to upgrade the drainage system, but Maddox nixed those to artificially inflate growth in Tuscaloosa after the tornado. Only since 2016 have new buildings built have been subjected to fees that upgrade utilities and infrastructure.
We have ailing infrastructure in Tuscaloosa....some of the drainage is over 100 years old and hasn't been upgraded. We have frequent sewerage overflows into the Black Warrior River that contaminates the river. Hundreds of houses and cars (including mine) were damaged during last Friday's flood. I have never seen flooding that bad in my whole time living in Tuscaloosa, which is going on 8 years. It is only getting more routine and more severe.
Say no to Walt. Unless you want the whole state underwater.

She's not gonna debate. She wouldn't have her handlers there to tell her what to say. Walt would destroy her in a public forum much like Kennedy did Nixon back in the day. I don't know if people will blindly vote for her because she is the republican incumbent, but I think by the the time election time rolls around the polls will be closer than the Ivy campaign would like. I could see medical cannabis and legalized sports betting becoming hot topics in the near future.

It seems like with just over a month until the midterms that things are getting a little stale. Governor Ivey has been rather quite just popping up at a few places here and there but not really anything of significance. Meanwhile, Maddox is really pushing the debate refusal by Ivey. I don’t see this as being a winning tactic. He is talking about the lottery, expanding mental health, Medicaid, and infrastructure but I don’t think this is enough to fire voters up in October. He really needs to turn the heat up on Ivey and even then I doubt that changes much. I haven’t seen any polling but I figure Ivey leads between 15-20 points.

Maddox wants to expand mental health? He better not be pulling our leg because that's by far the biggest factor to me. In Huntsville we have a major problem with people with debilitating psychosis, bipolar, schizophrenia etc... I can only imagine it's the same in the other big cities. It taxes the police, it taxes the hospitals and puts citizens at risk. There's barely anywhere for them to go to get treatment around here, or anywhere in Alabama, unless they have good private insurance & money or vast sums of wealth. Neither of which you'd expect from the homeless guy who thinks he's being followed by government hitmen trying to steal his eight hundred trillion dollars that is stashed away in the trunk of their friends car.
The state run psychiatric hospital of North Alabama was shut down, now the second largest local hospital in the city shut down their psych ward. Huntsville Hospital has been inundated with violent and psychotic patients who have overwhelmed the staff and more often are requiring frequent extreme interventions (physical and chemical restraint/sedation, tazed by local PD). They're interrupting church services by bolting in with a knife in hand, they're getting into altercations with people out shopping ... And if they've done any drugs (which most psychotic people do) then they don't have any chance of being admitted to the psych unit for treatment and are discharged from the ER psych unit & back on the street.
It was already a bad underfunded system, and it's gotten much worse over the past couple years. We desperately need to elect representatives who will realize this isn't something to sweep under the rug just because it costs money. Having these people roam the streets with no hope of getting any help and their condition getting worse as time goes on, puts everyone at risk.

Yes! This is a major problem and no one seems to be tackling it. During every election cycle politicians mention a few empty words and then nothing ever happens. The mentally ill on our streets are getting no help and they desperately need it. And the problem seems to be that everyone's hands are tied. There is a lady who comes into our office once or twice a week who suffers from mental illness. She asks me if she can have a drink of water and in the next breath is telling someone beside her (no one is beside her) to shut up and go away and leave her alone. She hallucinates, argues with invisible people, and insists her son has been kidnapped by the Illuminati. I've asked what can be done for her and the answer is....nothing. I fear for her. Something terrible is going to happen to her some day and there is nothing I can do for her. I've wanted the police to come get her just so I know she's off the streets and I knows she's being fed and looked after - even if it's for a few days - but they've politely said they can't because she's not breaking any laws.

I worked in a public library for over 12 years and I have seen what mental illness does to people on the street. I’ve also witnessed drug use/sales as the restrooms would be littered with used needles and other drug parophenelia. It was a serious public health hazard. These people need help and library staff are not trained to handle those type situations. I no longer work there but they have hired an off duty policeman to be there a majority of the time now. Those type of things he talks about gets my attention but the average voter may go overlooked.

The poll they showed on the news had Ivey ahead by a significant margin. I don’t think anyone can overcome such a defecit this close to the election.

Ivey, her office, and her campaign are blatantly lying about her Colorado illness. It is beyond disqualifying, but it won't matter in Alabama if you have an R next to your name. Roy Moore, who had inappropriate relationships with young girls including attempted sexual activity, almost won. Blatantly lying about your health won't matter to Republicans in Alabama.

I hate to sound crass, but based on what we (think we) know about Ivey's health, the race for Lt. Governor may be the most important race this November.

Speaking of Ivey, she was in Tuscaloosa last weekend politicking real hard during the homecoming festivities. She was decked out in crimson and "yelling" roll tide. She even was on the field for the halftime show with the homecoming queen.
Oh, and she has a dog named "Bear." I'm sure he isn't named after Bear Bryant.
Pretty sure she is a Barner, but she's gotta break Walt's only stronghold...his own town.

I don't remember her last year being at the homecoming game. But I could be wrong.
Need to get your history correct. People that listened to the Nixon Kennedy debate on radio thought Nixon won decisively. Those that watched them on TV went overwhelmingly for Kennedy because of aesthetics. Nixon was sweating profusely and wiped his brow during the entire debate. Kennedy looked better and obviously was the more handsome of the two.
