I've always been fascinated by the Mount St. Helens eruption that occurred 37 years ago today. I often wonder do the people of the US really realize the power of the sleeping giants hidden away around the west coast, often with large cities nearby. This includes Mount Shasta in California, Mount Hood in Oregon, and Mount Rainier in Washington State.


Did you know that Jackson, Mississippi sits on top of an extinct volcano that last erupted over 70 million years ago. In fact the Jackson Volcano is the reason that 25% of the nation's carbon-dioxide gas reserves are found in the counties around Jackson, Mississippi.

That is one heck of an Eruption. I remember seeing this on the news and seeing pictures of cars and streets covered in ash.
