2026 Global Tropical Cyclone Discussion

Welp, round 2 of Gezani rapidly intensifying is ongoing it seems like, and now the JTWC expects a secondary peak of 110 kts (125 mph), which means Gezani is likely going to become a major cyclone again.

We have a High chance invest in the SWIO in Invest 97S (also called Tropical Depression 11 by Meteo-France. The next name is Horacio.
 
Invest 97S has become Tropical Cyclone 22S as of the 00Z ATCF update. As mentioned earlier, the next new in the SWIO is Horacio.

First forecast from the JTWC calls for a major cyclone straight out of the gate.

Tropical Cyclone 22S was designated Moderate Tropical Storm Horacio overnight (for my time zone at least), and the next warning from the JTWC has yet to release, so we still have last night’s warning on the table.
 
Anyone up for a South Atlantic Tropical Cyclone?

It’s still a long way and it may never happen, but it’s fun to see in the models.

Horacio has become the third SWIO major cyclone in a row after Fytia and Gezani. Horacio as of the 12Z ATCF update is at 110 kts (125 mph), with room to intensify more over the next 24-36 hours.

On top of this, Horacio has become the fourth major cyclone globally of 2026.
 
Intense Tropical Cyclone Horacio is putting on a show this morning with a well-defined eye and well-defined convection surrounding the eye.
