Right out the gate the JTWC calls for a borderline Category 5 Super Typhoon on the first advisory on 12W, with the end of the forecast showing 135 kts, just shy of Category 5 intensity, and leaving room for more strengthening beyond the end of the forecast.
For those of you that don’t understand, this is extremely rare to see. You usually don’t see the first advisory of any system calling for that high of an intensity. This is extraordinary and rare to see.

I would go looking for how many times this has happened for typhoons at the first advisory, but I have no idea where to find that.
 
To put some historic perspective on Hurricane Genevieve, it is the first July Eastern Pacific category 5 hurricane in 24 years. Last one was Elida (2002).
