Sounds like the new talking point will be that impeachment is such a witchhunt that Jeff Van Drew left the Democratic Party in disgust to become a Republican. I'm sure the fact that less than 25% of Democrats in New Jersey have a favorable opinion of him -- or want to see him re-elected -- has nothing to do with his decision. I wonder if anyone who can actually see or hear will believe the latest spin and gaslighting meant to defend Trump from being held responsible for his actions and behavior surrounding the Biden/Ukraine scandal.
I'd like to think most people in touch with reality would see Van Drew's actions as the nakedly political career promotion it is, but considering even people like Will Hurd have given themselves up over impeachment, I'm not going to hold my breath.
I've long admired Justin Amash for being willing to tell the truth about both Trump and the radical Democrats in Congress, but at this point he's a lonely voice in the wilderness.
Our Congress is seemingly accountable and fearful of everyone from big business, lobbyists, radical activists, and the leadership of their party, but the one group they're not scared of (not accountable to) is the American people. I think our country is headed for further division and even more bitter partisanship. Hopefully the ramifications of all of that are quickly visible and the American People force a major change to our current political system and structure. I fear, however, that too much damage will be done before that happens. In a way, it couldn't be more fitting that Donald Trump ends up being the person who led our country into complete political and social bankruptcy.
